Meet Khaleesi | Frequenseer & Curator of Vibes

We had the good fortune of connecting with Khaleesi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khaleesi, how does your business help the community?
As a DJ, it is my responsibility to take people away from their daily concerns and create an environment for them to escape into music, loose themselves on the dancefloor, leave all of their cares there to be transmuted, and leave renewed.
I balance energy fields through sound, the great equalizer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always been drawn to and motivated by music. I was born & raised in Germany, so my musical journey is long, broad and encompasses all genres.
The first record I ever bought myself was EPMD Strictly Business. But I was also the queen of mixtapes. I made them for all of my friends. I was a DJ in High school. I curated playlists for our parties & road trips.
Fast forward to mid 2000’s. I arrived in Atlanta, GA. The guy I was dating at the time loaded Fruityloops on my desktop computer and I was hooked.
The first track I ever produced was a 122 BMP House Track.
A few years after I lucked up on an event at the W Downtown, where I met Mike Zarin. He invited me to a party called Tambor. The rest is history. I found my tribe. I was dancing 3-4 nights a week and immersed myself in the House Music scene. I was a booking agent with Global Moods for about a year. Then I took a long break from everything.
Over the years several friends suggested I start DJing. I had considered it, I loved music after all, but it never seemed like the right time.
In 2022, right after Covid, the idea came nudging again. I spoke to my dear DJ friend Kevin Latham (RIP Homie!) and he said come over and practice anytime. He just kinda let me push buttons on his board and I quickly became overwhelmed. It looks much easier than it is lol.
Then DJ Skyywalker sent me a message telling me she was hosting a class for women DJs. I jumped at the opportunity. My friend Tristan let me borrow his decks & speaker. And I quickly became obsessed. I transferred my CD collection to drive. I asked my DJ friends for music (I am blessed to have so many dope connections).
I began playing immediately. My first official set was on a rooftop in Buckhead (thank you DJ Diwa!). Then I joined Doc Ramadhan & Superfriends every Tuesday at CreateATL. This gave me an opportunity to experience a weekly residency, polish my sound and get in the groove of blending & mixing.
After I joined SirenSounds all girl collective, and now we play every second Sunday of the month at NiteOwl Kitchen in Avondale. We rotate talent and all of the ladies are amazing.
Since then I have played many parties, festivals, events, clubs. I love underground vibes. I am also niched for lifestyle events which I enjoy.
My sound is Tribal, Afro, Deep House, AfroBeats & world sounds. I like to play what you haven’t heard yet, or won’t hear too many other places. With my sets, I hope to take people on a journey across the world through sound. I find mainstream music limiting and often times vibrationally unaligned. I want to be an antidote to that. Breaker of Chains.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oohh the is ATL Babyy!! There’s always stuff to do!
Arrive Monday-
Dinner at Apres Diem, maybe swing by Block & Drum for some drinks & dancing.
Tuesday we can check out the beltline, walk, skate, or rent a scooter. Stop at breweries, murals, and pop-up shops along the way. Get up to the Ponce City Market Rooftop in time for the sunset (great skyline views), also carnival games and rooftop cocktails or food.
Wednesday we’re gonna explore Virginia Highlands cafés & boutiques.
Then see the sunset, ferris wheel & have drinks at Glenn Hotel Rooftop (killer views, more intimate vibe than PCM).
Thursday – resort pass & chill at the W Downtown Pool (scene-y, cocktails, people-watching). They also have a Spa up there, optional. The pool is saltwater. Great views.
They also have several sexy bars in the lower levels for food & more drinks.
Friday we can check out the High Museum, after tapas & live music at Eclipse de Luna!
End the night with a casual drive-in movie at Starlight Drive-In for a retro ATL vibe.
Saturday we do a morning Hike at Arabia Mountain (stunning granite outcrop, wildflowers, and otherworldly landscapes). The view is incredible- also great sunsets!
Afternoon, craft beer tasting at Atlantucky Brewery (Black-owned, cool community vibe). They also have a pizza spot inside.
Saturday night we’re dancing at one of ATL’s many dope House Music events. Or at the Atlanta Underground.
Alternatively and depending on mood – we could go to Magic City to support single mothers.
Sunday we SHOULD REST!! The best place to do that is at the Korean Sauna in Duluth. I prefer Spaland, but there is also JeJu. Many rejuvenating services and rest areas.
So… are we kicking it, or what? 😄

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my longtime friend Noni Walker, aka DJ Skyywalker.
Many people saw my potential, but she actually pulled the trigger for me – first by inspiring me, then by inviting to teach me. Finally by including me in her collective and giving me an opportunity to shine. I’ll always be grateful to her for that. And she continues to bring other women up. You rock Skyywalker!
