Meet Sima Abbasi

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sima Abbasi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sima, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Zeba Hair Salon in 2008. I had been in the industry for some time and I wanted to be part of something more. I wanted to start something bigger than me and I wanted to make a difference in the beauty industry.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Zeba Hair Salon has two locations. I think what makes both Zeba Hair Salons different to other salons is the team. Our team always has the best interest of the guest and they are all trained and educated on how to have the best interest of the health and style of the guest.
We have a variety of expertise and we are always taking new classes so they are up to date on all of the newest techniques and technology. It’s incredibly important at Zeba to hone your skills. We believe that continued education is what makes the difference between mediocrity and a true artist. It’s even in our employee handbook.
Our team is also very community focused. Everyday, we recycle as much as possible within the salon to reduce our carbon footprint. We also giveback to the Atlanta Humane Society and Must Ministries. We donate shampoo and conditioner to local charities. Our team also volunteers at the Atlanta Humane Society every year.
I am super proud of our team for participating in various community events like the Deck the Square Christmas tree decorating in Roswell Square. We have also cultivated a community amongst ourselves. We believe in one for all and all for one. We have learned to do whatever we can to life each other’s spirit. It’s a really beautiful thing to see.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would make a wonderful homecooked meal for them. For coffee, I love Mzizi Coffee. We actually have a lot of meetings there because the coffee is so excellent. And for views, I always recommend Kennesaw Mountain. It has beautiful scenery.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dad was my biggest mentor. He passed away recently and I have found myself reflecting on all of the lessons he taught me. He always said you should do you best no matter what you are doing. That is something that I apply to every aspect of my life. He was a very kind, courageous man. He believed that fear is the enemy of living and I see that everyday. It’s important to be unapologetically bold.
