We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaiah Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isaiah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business came from a mix of frustration and vision. I knew I had a gift, but I also realized that working under someone else’s structure wouldn’t allow me to fully express it or grow the way I wanted to. I was tired of being overlooked and underpaid, and I wanted to create something that reflected my standards, creativity, and passion. I didn’t just want to make money.. I wanted to build something meaningful, impact others, and show people what’s possible when you bet on yourself. That mindset gave me the push to stop waiting and start building.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is built on impact, intentionality, and authenticity. What sets me apart is not just the quality of my work but the experience and transformation I provide. I went from being overlooked to overbooked, not by luck, but by consistency, faith, and strategy. I’ve built a brand that empowers not only my clients, but other beauty professionals looking to grow and scale.

Getting here wasn’t easy. I made a lot of mistakes, wasted money trying to follow trends, and questioned myself more than once. But every challenge taught me to trust my own path and lean into what made me different. I learned that alignment beats aesthetics every time, and that my story, my style, and my strategy are enough.

What I’m most proud of is how I’ve been able to help others. Whether it’s teaching 2×6 closure techniques or mentoring service providers on going from side hustlers to CEOs, I’m living proof that with clarity and commitment, you can turn your gifts into legacy.

What I want the world to know is: I didn’t just build a business.. I built a movement.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit Atlanta for a week, I’m making sure they get the full experience, from good eats to good energy. First stop is Southern Fire Kitchen for some of the best soul food in the city, it’s a must. We’d do brunch at Toast on Lenox or Breakfast at Barney’s, and catch a cute vibe at Roc South or Rock Steady for dinner and cocktails.

We’d spend an afternoon walking the BeltLine, grab drinks at Ponce City Market, and maybe do a rooftop dinner at STK or Drawbar at the Bellyard Hotel for views. For a fun night out, we’re hitting Cru Lounge or Red Martini, and if they love music, I’m taking them to Apache XLR or a local R&B night.

I’d also show them where the culture really lives, supporting Black-owned spots, vibing at pop-ups, and even hitting a day party if the timing’s right. Atlanta has something for everybody, and I’d make sure they leave full, inspired, and wanting to come back.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shout out to Asada (lashdoutlounge) my business bestie! For keeping my grounded and pushing and supporting my every move!
