We had the good fortune of connecting with Omari Cudjoe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Omari, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Funny enough, it starts with a white board. I had a very hard time remembering anything that I would try to do on a day to day basis. My wife suggested it, and now it’s become something that is crucial throughout my daily routine. The next and most important thing is to pray over everything. Whether it’s jobs that I’m looking to be contracted for, or jobs that I’m about to perform, it’s all extremely vital to my business. I’ve seen how my business has operated on both sides of the coin, and to say that business with God is much better is a complete understatement!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Wedding/engagement photographer based in the Metro Atlanta area. I got into photography honestly by happens chance and now 4 years later, I am still striving to become even better than my last shoot. What sets me apart from others would be approach to my sessions. I have a very silly personality and I love people, so I try and bring that out in everything. It helps my couple’s to relax and feel good about everything that they are apart of. That is typically what I am most proud of too. Not being someone else, but honestly being myself, but it wasn’t always this way. My wife pointed out to me that I never seemed comfortable on my shoots, and that could potentially translate to my couples being less comfortable as well. So we switched that up and now it’s been much more fun. Another thing that I am most proud of is the fact that my style of photography has been reaching new heights ever since last year. I honestly had 4 styles in 2020 because I was unhappy with how my edits looked, and I knew the more I learned, the less that I could allow myself to stay in the same place. My whole journey as a photographer has been the same way through and through, change is never bad. As I stated earlier, it took 4 years to get to where I am today, but it hasn’t been as fun as it would seem. I have had months of no work, no money coming in. I haven’t been able to pay my rent before, no food to eat, had my car repoed, and a numerous amount of other things. But just like in every story, there is a silver lining. It taught me resilience, courage, and that I need God most of all! One thing that I would want the world to know about my brand is that I am dedicated to my craft as a photographer, I am dedicated to people, I am dedicated to love, and I am dedicated to sharing the Love of God.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting in town (which is my brother), we would probably do a spending time with friends. He is a very big people person, so I know that he would want to spend as much time with them as possible. Then we would go to a brewery or two, because he’s super huge into beer. I would then take him to a few new restaurants me and my wife found and then lastly take him to a gummy bear factory because he’s even more into gummy bears than he is into beer. That would be what I would do for him.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my wife. She has pushed me father than anyone has ever and that has made me realize the potential that I have in not only my business but myself as well! But I’d also like to shout out my parents for starting me on the path that I am right now. And last but not least, I would like to dedicate this to my brother. He’s always believed in me, supported me, and been there with me through everything!
