We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Sullen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I pride myself on consistently treating people with kindness. It’s important that each customer understands this is far more than a transaction for me. That approach, I believe, has allowed people to naturally gravitate toward me and my work over the years. When you take the time to truly connect and do right by people, they tend to share those feel-good stories with others. Becoming Georgia’s #1 Hat Shop has been a byproduct of that—word of mouth at its finest, driven by the genuine experiences people have had with Hatrimony.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As cliché as it may sound, I have to credit hard work and dedication for getting me to where I am today professionally. I’ve always been willing to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals—as long as it doesn’t compromise my morals, beliefs, or values.

Growing up in a fast-paced city like New Orleans, I was naturally drawn to jobs that kept me grounded and connected to people. At my core, I’m an introvert, but working in customer-facing roles helped me sharpen my ability to solve problems and navigate conflict with grace. There were times when the manager wasn’t available to de-escalate a situation—so I had to figure it out on my own. Over time, those experiences equipped me with the leadership skills necessary to stand on the frontlines with confidence.

I’ve learned that your team often reflects your energy and approach. That’s why I always strive to lead with respect, integrity, and patience. Those values have helped me maintain strong, lasting relationships both in business and in life. A good name still matters—and I want the world to understand the intention behind not only the Hatrimony brand, but also my personal brand. I’m someone who has endured trial after trial, yet continued to persevere.

The hardest transition I’ve ever faced was moving into the “real world” after life as a professional athlete. I felt safest in the locker room and between the lines with my brothers. Now, I’m honored and privileged to create that same sense of safety for others, outside of the game. That’s what Hatrimony is for the people who walk through our doors—a safe space. We talk, we create, we build, we pour into each other, and more than anything, we leave better than we came. Humbly speaking, no one does that quite like we do.

Come see for yourself—haha.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Good one — so let’s stay in Douglasville for a second.

I’d start by grabbing brunch at Gritz Brunch Bar, which is conveniently right next door to our shop inside O’Neal Plaza. A couple of other solid brunch spots to consider are High Noon Brunchery (you might know it as The Pink Place) and T’s Brunch Bar, which has become so popular that they’re now expanding to two locations in Downtown Douglasville.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to walk off that good food before thinking about your next meal. No need to hop in the car — everything is within walking distance. First stop: Forget Me Nots, a local gem full of unique finds and collectibles — and yes, it smells amazing in there. After that, stroll down Church Street and check out one of our newest attractions: the Greystone Amphitheatre. Since we’ve been in business, it’s been home to some amazing community events, concerts, and festivals.

While you’re in the area, swing by the Douglas County Museum of History and Art on Veterans Memorial for a quick cultural fix. And if your stomach starts talking again, there are plenty of lunch spots like Gumbeaux’s Cajun Café, Fabiano’s Pizzeria, and Blu Rose Art Bistro. Need a caffeine refill? Kuumba Coffee is close by and always comes through.

As you make your way back toward the square, pop into the Douglasville Welcome Center and say hello to Will, Tori, and the rest of the crew — they’re always ready to share what makes this city special.

For a little something sweet, try Hermana’s, a Black-owned Italian ice spot right on Main Street. And if the vibe shifts and you’re looking to wind down (or turn up), Per Se is a great spot for drinks and bar bites with a beautiful ambiance. Locals also love Allure Lounge.

Now, if you’re a fan of Mexican food like me, I personally recommend Monterrey’s — they’ve got a few locations around Douglasville. Casa Tequila is another solid choice. And if you’re up for a short drive, head over to Acere Cigar in neighboring Powder Springs. It’s another fantastic Black-owned spot with great food, drinks, and live music throughout the week.

I’m sure I’m missing a few, but these are the ones that come to mind first. Just let me know when you’re ready to come check out Douglasville — I’ll be your personal tour guide. Deal?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d have to shout out my wife, Mrs. Ariel Anderson-Sullen. We share more than just a life—we were even born on the same day, same month, same year. She’s been a powerful accountability partner and a constant source of grounding, especially as I’ve faced some of the most important decisions of my adult life. She’s often seen things in me that I couldn’t see in myself, especially when I was distracted by where I was instead of focused on where I was headed.

It’s important to me that people understand just how pivotal she was in helping me open up to the idea of creating my own brand. There were a lot of “no’s” before I could finally say “yes” to launching Hatrimony. Through countless prayers and long conversations, the concept of the brand was born—in the very town she grew up in. Crazy, right?
