Meet Baigen Seawell | Videographer and Sports Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Baigen Seawell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Baigen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process when starting this business did not take much thought. I was already a year in my career field post-undergrad, and I was, like many others, impacted by the Pandemic.
Because of this, I chose to pursue the field outside of my 9-5 due to my desire to help athletes and those similar who were interested in working with me to build their personal brand. From there, I expanded on my personal brand while helping those around me on expanding their own.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career has been very journey filled in the past seven years. I was able to work from the high-school-level all the way up to the pros, working with local high schools in Georgia to start. It was there where I figured out sports media was for me.
From there I worked my way up through the college ranks, working in the NAIA circuit and building on that to put me in the NCAA Division One level. This was not a set path though; like many people, I was impacted by the COVID Pandemic and had to wait for an opportunity to present itself.
When it did, though, I realized this was the field for me. Working with student-athletes who had a desire to pursue their studies and learn their own journey/pathway was a major interest to me. This interest was even higher on my list than working with professional athletes.
I chose to pursue that venture further by rejoining the high school circuit, reigniting my interest in mentorship and helping build young student-athletes’ brands.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I grew up outside of Atlanta in the metro area, but I have been fortunate to have a parent who worked in the heart of the city for the majority of my childhood.
Whenever I have friends visiting the city, I always recommend visiting Thumbs Up diner in Edgewood to start off your day, but I’ve had a newfound appreciation for Fish and Grits as well.
I am a history and art buff, so I always recommend people visit the High Museum of Art and also Sweet Auburn to view the MLK museum. There are numerous places to go in the outskirts for an evening vibe, but I always recommend the downtown historic sites (Roswell, Marietta, and Woodstock if you’re interested in a longer drive!)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is not one set person I would want to dedicate this to, but I would really want to give my flowers to my family. Without my foundation, I would not even considered pursuing the sports media field as I never really had an idea of what I wanted to pursue.
Many people brag on having a strong backbone, and I am not one to take that lightly. If there were specific people, I’d like to shoutout my little brother, who is as creative as I am, and my mom, who noticed my talents and told me to follow them thoroughly.
I’d also like to shoutout my Alma Mater, West Virginia State University, who’s staff and faculty made it possible for me to realize my talents are one in a million.
