We had the good fortune of connecting with Iyana Irie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Iyana, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Memphis, TN, and that’s really where my roots are. That place raised me—it taught me how to be tough, how to hustle, and how to express myself when words weren’t enough. But I also moved to Atlanta, GA, and that change played a big role in my growth too. It gave me a new perspective, showed me different ways of life, and helped me find my sound on a deeper level. That move was uncomfortable at first, but it pushed me out of my comfort zone and into my purpose. Both places shaped me—one gave me my fire, the other helped me focus it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music is real, raw, and rooted in my truth. I’m not just rapping—I’m telling my story. What sets me apart is my honesty and the way I blend strength with vulnerability. It wasn’t easy getting here—no shortcuts, just grind, lessons, and growth. I’ve faced doubt, setbacks, and being overlooked, but I kept going. What I want people to know is that I’m not here for clout—I’m here to make impact. My brand is about resilience and turning pain into power.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend pulled up to Atlanta for a week, I’d show them the real A. We’re starting with breakfast at Atlanta Breakfast Club, then maybe hit the Trap Music Museum or the High Museum if they’re into art. Lunch at Slutty Vegan—gotta give them that ATL flavor. One night we’re at Cascade skating, another at Apache XLR for live music. We’d vibe on the BeltLine, hit a studio session, and maybe close it out with a night at Compound or Suite Lounge. Atlanta’s got soul, energy, and nonstop creativity—I’d make sure they feel all of it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yeah, for sure. I gotta give a big shoutout to my family—my immediate circle. They’ve been my backbone through everything. All of my family were the ones who kept pushing me, even when things got rough or I doubted myself. Whether it was helping me get studio time, listening to my rough drafts, or just reminding me who I am, they’ve always had my back. We’ve been through a lot together, and I carry their strength with me every time I step in the booth. This journey isn’t just mine—it’s ours.
