We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Vereen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
For as long as I can remember, my family has been the heartbeat of my life. As a proud Latina, my roots run deep in the values of love, resilience, and faith. My abuelita’s stories and the voices of strong, passionate women in my community have always inspired me to carry forward the rich cultural traditions that shape who I am today. They’ve taught me that our stories are powerful, and we, as women, hold the strength to overcome anything life throws our way.

It was this inspiration that led me to write my first women’s devotional. The journey wasn’t easy. Life often felt overwhelming with its demands and distractions. But every time I returned to my community, to the deep well of faith and support that my family and fellow Latinas provide, I found strength. Their courage reminded me that I, too, have a voice worth sharing. I realized that by embracing my identity, my faith, and the wisdom of those who came before me, I had something meaningful to offer the world.

Through the process of writing my devotional, I connected more deeply with my spiritual side and learned to listen to God’s calling in ways I hadn’t before. But the story didn’t end there. My journey took a beautiful turn when I was invited to become a coauthor in an upcoming book collaboration set to release this Spring. The book is a celebration of diverse voices, and I’m honored to be contributing alongside other powerful women of faith.

This opportunity has been a reminder that dreams can come true, especially when we remain anchored in community and faith. My Latina roots have shown me that we can lift each other up, amplify our voices, and create space for those who may have felt invisible. My devotionals and writings are not just mine – they are for all the women who have shaped me, who have inspired me, and who have walked alongside me in faith and love.

As we approach the release of this book, I am filled with gratitude. It’s a moment to celebrate the incredible strength of women, especially in our communities, where love and faith intertwine to create something beautiful. This is only the beginning, and I can’t wait to continue sharing my journey with the world, one word at a time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has been shaped by persistence and resilience. After earning my GED and undergraduate degree, I continued my education with a master’s degree. For many years, I worked entry-level jobs, often juggling multiple roles alongside my husband to make ends meet.

Today, I work for a state agency in a male-dominated field, and I’m proud to be one of the few Latinas at the table. It wasn’t easy, I’ve had to work harder and earn additional education to get here. But with the unwavering support of my husband and family, I’ve overcome challenges and proved that determination pays off.

As a Latina, I’ve learned that we often have to work twice as hard to be seen, but I’m proud to show others that success is possible. My story is about lifting up others, especially women and Latinas, and showing them that with faith, hard work, and support, we can achieve our dreams.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d take them on the Connecticut Wine Trail. The wineries here are beautiful, and I love the relaxed vibe. We’d pack a basket with cheeses, crackers, chocolates, and desserts, making it a family affair where everyone brings something to share. It’s the perfect way to enjoy good wine and company, without worrying about taking a lot of pictures I’m all about living in the moment.

Aside from the wineries, I’d take them to local restaurants, shops, and attractions, making sure we soak in the charm of the area. Whether it’s a distillery, outdoor concert, or scenic park, the week would be all about great food, fun experiences, and unforgettable memories.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my family and my Latino community. Their continued support, love, and strength have been a constant source of inspiration on my journey. From my abuelita’s wisdom to the women in my community, their faith and resilience have shaped who I am today.

I also want to recognize the mentors who have believed in me and helped me grow, and the books that have nurtured my spiritual development. This shoutout is for everyone who has supported and uplifted me along the way without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
