We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelyn Moultrie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angelyn, what do you want people to remember about you?
Legacy is a daunting idea. I try not to think about what I’ll leave behind to the world because my fear is that I’ll leave nothing. But after I thought about this question some more, I refuse to believe my existence would have no impact. This fear of irrelevance is not possible. Simply because everyone is someone and everyone has a legacy whether they want to or not.
I want my legacy to be my love. My love for art. My love for Japanese fashion. My love for friends and family. My love for my enemies too.
I have often hoped that I would be remembered for my free spirit and my creativity. I have often hoped I would be remembered for my intelligence and devotion to science. But also, I really hope to be remembered in everything; bad dancing, bright colors, unique animals, weird food. I want people to remember at the end of all things. I am everything. And I loved everything too! I hope everyone knows that life is precious, therefor always be who you want. Love proudly and exist proudly. Let your love be your legacy. Let yourself be remembered in everything.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Honestly, what sets me apart from others in my field is how I’m multitalented. I am a marine scientist, integrative biologist, gyaru, cross country athlete, fashionista, writer and philosopher. These hobbies and parts of me don’t even scratch the surface of who I am. Sometimes people find one thing they’re good at and let that become their whole identity but that’s not me. I consistently want to grow and learn everything about everything, even if it seems impractical.
I believe all goals are slightly difficult to achieve but you learn to say yes to the pain knowing the struggle will be worth the outcome. I have been rejected from jobs I think I deserve but I trust in fate and more importantly, myself, that everything will be okay. This challenge of not being hired at places I desire allowed me to refocus my efforts on getting more qualifications and becoming a more well rounded person. I learned that there are always other opportunities that I can apply for instead, especially when I’m ready.
I hope people can take away from me that do everything you love. You can be more, at any time. And to anyone reading this, just know, I’m not finished yet!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Omgee!! I would take my best friend to Duluth first. My two favorite restaurants, Coffee By Hand and Dan Moo Ji, are located in Duluth. Coffee By Hand has the best croffles ever. Dan Moo Ji has the best tteokbokki also. I like to go to strange places in Atlanta so we must go to Junkmans Daughter and other parts of Little Five Points to go shopping. For photos, we’d go to the School Bus graveyard or the Cabbage Patch Kids museum. At night, we definitely have to go to the Masquerade to party!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It seems a bit basic but truly I owe so much to my Mom and Dad. My mom has always used kind words and spurred my decisions, even the bizarre ones. My dad has always been logical and supported my decisions with actions letting me do activities I’m sure people haven’t even heard of. I’m a major diva so to have two parents that put up with my fast paced dramatic life means more than anyone could know. My parents always aim to show me love through guidance. I’m more grateful for them now than when I was a child.
I also believe, God must be thanked in everything. In happiness, in pain, in sorrow, in love. I owe so much to Him. As a Catholic convert I can proudly say, God has motivated me and kept me strong. the Bible verse, “The same Spirit that rose Christ from the dead is living within You” (Romans 8:11) empowers me. I know that if Jesus’ strength is in me, I can do anything.
Also, weirdly enough, I owe my success to music that has kept me inspired to be something more than simple. Nothing beats a good song. Thank you, Lana Del Rey!
