Meet Shevon Jones | Licensed Clinical Social Worker & CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shevon Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shevon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my practice because I wanted to create a space that addressed a gap I personally experienced. As a high-functioning, anxious Black woman myself who has delt with depression silently , I often felt unseen, particularly in spaces where I was expected to mask my struggles while overachieving. I knew that if I felt this way, other women like me probably did too.
I wanted to build something where we could take off the masks, lean into collectively, and prioritize mental wellness and personal growth. My goal was to provide a space where Black women could feel empowered, seen, and heard, especially in a world that often expects us to carry so much.
It was also about freedom and impact. I wanted the freedom to design my life on my own terms, while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I’ve always been passionate about building community and fostering healing, and starting my business allowed me to merge that passion with my professional expertise.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, Mental Wellness Collective, was born out of a deep desire to create a safe and supportive space for Black women. What sets us apart is that we aren’t just about therapy; we’re about creating a community where women can take off their masks, rest, and be themselves. We don’t just provide tools for healing, but we foster spaces where women feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow into their highest selves.
Getting to where I am today was far from easy. It’s been a journey filled with growth, late nights, and moments of self-doubt. I started this business because I knew what it felt like to be unseen while struggling behind the scenes. My own journey of depression and anxiety while overachieving taught me the value of rest, vulnerability, and community. Those lessons have become the foundation of my business.
One of the biggest challenges was learning to balance it all all while managing a growing business being a mother and navigating my own mental health. I’ve learned to give myself grace as I encounter as I encounter a lot of first, delegate so I am not the only one shouldering the load, and leaning into my community when things feel overwhelming. There are still moments where I question my ability to keep going, but I hold onto my “why” and that is the Black women I serve each and every day.
Along the way, I’ve learned that being myself is everything. I’ve also learned that I have to practice self-care if I am going to sustain in this work.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that it’s built on love, and a deep respect for the power of community. Mental Wellness Collective is more than a business, it’s a movement to empower Black women to heal, and find joy. My story isn’t just about me; it’s about every Black woman who’s ever felt like she had to carry the world on her shoulders. I want her to know she doesn’t have to do it alone.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to town, I’d make sure we had brunch at Breakfast at Barneys and dinner at one of my favorite spots, like Gypsy Kitchen or Carmel in Buckhead Village. If we are going for drinks we would hit up MCK Restaurant and Bar or Bar Margo at the Four Seasons.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to Black women, the backbone of resilience, creativity, and community. To every Black woman who has ever felt unseen or unheard, you inspire me to keep going. Your strength, and brilliance deserve to be celebrated every day. This journey is for us, because we deserve spaces where we can not only heal but also experience simultaneously. Thank you for being my motivation, my community, and my reason for showing up
