We had the good fortune of connecting with Devon Vander Voort and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my own business because I wanted to have the freedom to work on a variety of different projects in the art world. I really enjoyed many facets of museum and gallery work, but I noticed a disconnect between the museum space and the commercial art world, a gap that I wanted to bridge.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started my business in 2023 with a business partner and I’ve recently taken it on solo. I’m really excited to build a company that touches so many different facets of the art and museum world. I’m really proud of the work that we’ve done to help artists and collectors and think about where their artwork a strategic way.

Owning and operating a business is not easy, every single day there are things that you need to learn and most of the time, you need to learn them quickly. I stand by the notion that the only way to learn something is to do it.

I’ve been able to overcome challenges because of the incredible support I have. Personally and professionally, there are many people in my corner who have been cheering me on this entire time. The art world can be insular, but if you find the right people, it’s like striking gold.

I want the world to know that art is such an incredible thing that we have the privilege to experience. I want to ignite conversations between curators, dealers, collectors, artists, art historians and open doors that have historically been shut.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had to show someone the city, I would take them to the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Center for Photography, and Jackson Fine Art.

I would make an entire day of it and experience the neighborhoods around all of them as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). I studied Art History and Museum Studies at SCAD and it completely changed the way I thought about the arts. Studying art history at an art school allowed me to have such an incredibly unique perspective. I was able to really understand artists and think about the arts in relation to business, which I can say ultimately lead me to start my own company at 23 years old.
