We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Thornton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Being an entrepreneur was not something I ever wanted to become but I was on a spiritual journey and in this journey is where I found my calling to become a life coach. Nothing was forced and everything started coming to me organically. When I got certified, I was still working in corporate America and I was going to ease into the business by doing it part time until I built my clientele and brand up. I started building my tribe via my daily post on social media and through that I started attracting clients. From there, an opportunity came for me to be a guest host on an podcast which then turned into me having my own podcast called the Wellness Architect Show. The podcast helped my grow my brand even larger and once again, this was something that I not want to do.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I go by the Wellness Architect as we are the architects for our wellness, mind, body and spirit. My business is transformational coaching, where I help people create the best version of themselves from a wholistic perspective. For one, I believe the best coaches had to be coached themselves and still have their own coach. Being coached shows your clients that you understand the process and make you more sympathetic towards them in their journey. I was coached by Iyanla Vazant and her team in 2011 and that experience transformed my life who I wanted to be a vessel of light for. That experience made me want to become who I am today. Additionally, focus on helping our men heal and transform their lives to become the leaders they are called to be. I’m also a certified holistic nutritional health coach and once of the greatest accomplishment were I helped this couple who both over 60 lose over 60 pounds each. They lost weight and got off medications but more importantly they were spiritually well. The journey to where I’m at today hasn’t been easy but it’s been worth the journey and struggle. I wanted to ease into coaching by continuing working in corporate america but the journey had something different for me. I got laid off and forced me to go head first into coaching. I started teaching spin classes to help build my brand, while creating my podcast The Wellness Architect Show. Those thing helped get my name out there as an expert in personal development and holistic health. The biggest lessons I learned the along the way is to know your worth and charge your worth. Know you will attract those who want you and they will be willing to pay for you. Secondly, don’t allow anyone to place their lack mindset and limitations onto you. If I’m being called to help black men, don’t allow anyone to tell me I will not succeed because they will not pay for those services. If I allow that energy on me then that will be my reality. Luckily for me, I did not and I have having success with helping our men become their best selves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The places to eat and drink that I would take my best friend: Iron hill Brewery in Buckhead great food and with craft beers. Arizona’s Steakhouse in Lithonia, I love going on Friday nights when they have the band. The food is excellent and they also have great drinks. 6 feet Under in Grant Park. The seafood and drinks are amazing and I love sitting on the rooftop. Humidor Cigar Lounge in Snellville, great place to smoke cigars, have a great drink and hang out. Bowlero in Chamblee it’s the old 300 bowling alley and its a great place to go bowling eat and drink.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad, Samuel Thornton, for giving me my first book Key to Yourself that put me on the road of self development. Even though life coach wasn’t out back then he was my and others very first life coach and he was the example of who and what I wanted to become.
