We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Wise and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve wanted to start my own business for the past 10 years. In fact, I’ve done it before—I launched an online boutique in 2019, which was my first real dive into the entrepreneurial world. In 2020, I even quit my job to dedicate myself to it full-time.

But here’s the thing: I made a backup plan. I told myself, “If this doesn’t work, I’ll fall back on my degree.” And let me tell you, that was my first big lesson: NEVER make a backup plan. The moment you do, you’re already leaving room for failure. And, well, I did fail. I’m back in the workforce full-time now, but this time it’s different.

I’ve learned so much about business—and about myself—through this journey. Now, I’m preparing to transition back into full-time entrepreneurship, but this time, I’m going in with no backup plan. I’m more confident than ever in my ability to succeed, and I’m excited to get back into the entrepreneurial space.

I’m genuinely enjoying the journey this time around. Every step is teaching me something new, and I can’t wait to see where it leads!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a life coach and podcast host passionate about helping women step into their power and take ownership of their lives. My work is all about guiding women to become more self-aware, accountable, and intentional—whether that’s through setting boundaries, strengthening relationships, or simply learning how to show up as their best selves.

What sets me apart? I keep it real. I’m not here to sugarcoat things or make it seem like life is perfect. I focus on authenticity, honesty, and creating a safe space for women to grow. My podcast is like a conversation with your girlfriends—real, relatable, and inspiring. I think that balance of support and accountability is what makes my coaching style unique.

One of the things I’m most proud of is just getting to this point. Starting my coaching business and podcast wasn’t easy. I’ve battled imposter syndrome, fear of failure, and a million other doubts, but I pushed through because I knew my voice and message mattered. My journey hasn’t been a straight line and I still have a lot to learn. I’ve made mistakes, learned tough lessons, and even had to go back to the drawing board more than once.

The biggest lessons I’ve learned? I’ve learned to embrace the messy parts of my journey and to believe in myself even when things don’t look perfect. I’ve also realized that it’s okay to pivot when something doesn’t feel right, but never stop!

What do I want the world to know? My brand, Healing In Progress, is about helping women get unstuck and move forward with intention and confidence. It’s about growth, healing, and creating the life you deserve, all while keeping it real and relatable. My story isn’t about having it all figured out—it’s about taking it one step at a time and showing up for yourself every single day. When I see these women, I see myself, and I want to help them the best way I know how.

This is was never a dream of mine, but it is a gift, and it is only right that I share it with the world. I’m excited about what’s next, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to help others along the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My idea of the perfect itinerary? First stop: the spa—because relaxation is a must. Then, a nice restaurant with a great variety of food and cozy dim lighting. After that, a wine tasting and tour to keep the vibes going. I’d love to throw in something creative, like a pottery class or candle making. And, of course, no perfect day would be complete without a stop at Target! 😂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I honestly can’t dedicate this shoutout to just one person because so many people have shaped me into the person I am today—good experiences and not-so-good ones included. Every moment, every interaction, has played a part in my growth.

First, I have to give the biggest shoutout to God. His spirit has kept me grounded and spiritually safe through it all. There have been moments when I wanted to throw in the towel, but He always shows up to restore me and give me the strength to keep going.

Next, I have to thank my parents. They might not be able to give me everything I want, but they’ve always been there when it truly mattered. Over time, I’ve learned to appreciate them not just as my parents but as people, with their own strengths, struggles, and love to give. That’s been a beautiful lesson.

And of course, I couldn’t leave out my close-knit circle of friends. From the ones who’ve been by my side for years to those who’ve only recently entered my life, they’ve all shown up for me in ways that mean the world. This past year especially, I’ve felt so much love and support—sometimes from people I never expected.

I don’t have a huge network, but the people I am connected to are gold. They remind me every day that I’m loved, valued, and not alone. And for that, I’m beyond grateful.
