We had the good fortune of connecting with Vicky Bryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vicky, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Being in the medical field for 27 years, I’ve had many years to grow and learn about relationships as well as myself. Networking and word of mouth advertising have been instrumental in the success of Skinafx. Having respect for and listening to my clients, builds a bond that focuses on realistic goals and results. Skinafx has grown exponentially over the past 4 years. We work with purpose and concentrate on building relationships, rather than being the next med spa in the Woodstock area.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a well rounded career. I began as a graduate from Georgia Southern University BSN program and worked as a registered nurse in the trauma ICU setting. Being flexible and willing to adapt allowed me to have opportunities in the recovery room, teaching diabetic education and ultimately, attending Emory University’s Wound, Ostomy and Continence (WOCN) program. I was certified as a CWOCN in 2002 and worked in this field of nursing for 15 years. The training and experience gained allowed me to acquire extensive knowledge about advanced skin care. However, I knew there was more to my journey and I wanted to elevate my career as a medical provider. I obtained a Masters in Nursing degree from Georgia State University and began a 5 year stent as a primary provider. This is wear my dream of being in the anti aging aesthetic world amplified. Getting to this point did not come without hardship. Time with family and self care had been sacrificed and I was ready to get my life back. Self care became paramount and I wanted to help others prioritize how they viewed themselves. Skinafx was started in small cubicle and and has expanded into a med spa. Finding a balance between business and personal time can be challenging. However, taking my self care social media post weekly advice is paramount in my success. There is no greater joy than seeing a client light up with joy the first look at the provided treatment. It is truly fulfilling to the soul.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Goodness, there is so much I would do.
Mon- We would start out at the Avalon. Shopping and the food options are plentiful.
Tues- We would have a day to hike and explore Red Top mountain. Having 2 dogs, this is a must. We would focus on exercising and getting fresh air.
Coming back we would stop by Big Door Winery for a flight and some food.
Wednesday- We would have a spa day at Healing Hands Therapy and a facial at Salt of the Earth in Woodstock. We end the day with dinner and a movie at -Movie Tavern in Roswell.
Thursday we would travel to Ponce and take a walk on the Belt line. We would have a bite at New Relm Brewery. A trip to the Atlanta Botanical gardens is a must.
Friday- We would spend a day in Downtown Woodstock, visiting Deep Roots, Century House, Findely Rowe, Leaning Ladder, Made Mercantile and Rustic Market. We would see a live band at Madlife to end the evening.
Saturday- We would visit the Atlanta Battery and stop off in Downtown Marietta for a tea and treat at the Sessions Stand.
Sunday would be our day of rest, reflecting on our adventures and preparing for the next week.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout goes to Dr. Stacey O’Brien. She and I worked together in primary care and she was willing to partner with me in my vision of Skinafx. She is my biggest cheerleader, always reminding me of my worth and success. She is a source of knowledge and inspiration. Dr. O’Brien has encouraged me to spread my wings and has mentored me as an entrepreneur.
