We had the good fortune of connecting with DeAndra Colbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeAndra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first considered starting Your Kreative Junkie, LLC, I didn’t believe I could actually do it. I spent countless days and nights wondering, How can I even make this happen? Do I really want this? What does God see in me that I’m not seeing myself? Eventually, I moved beyond that phase and started pushing myself forward.

The first step was identifying the purpose of YKJ. I needed a clear mission for the business—something that would solve a problem, enrich people’s lives, or bring something fresh and inspiring to the world. It had to resonate with me on a personal level, something I’d feel deeply invested in. I did a lot of research, spending late nights reading, watching videos, and even reaching out to people for advice.

Honestly, I don’t know how I would’ve made it through without Keyandrea’s support. She really pushed me and helped a lot, especially in shaping the brand identity. I knew that to stand out in a creative field, my brand had to be distinct, memorable, and reflective of the core values I wanted to promote. That meant everything—from choosing a unique name and designing a compelling logo to developing a strong, consistent message and voice.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is about bringing creativity to life in ways that feel genuine and impactful. With *Your Kreative Junkie*, I aim to create custom pieces that are not only visually captivating but also deeply personal, leaving a lasting impression. I think what sets my work apart is the intention behind every piece. I don’t just want to make something beautiful; I want it to resonate with people, to reflect something unique about them, their experiences, or their story.

One of the things I’m most proud of is how much I’ve grown both personally and professionally. When I first started, I didn’t have the equipment, resources, or even the confidence I have now. But my leaders and mentors, like Elijah, Khadijah, and Keyandrea, believed in me even when I struggled to believe in myself. They reminded me to embrace the gifts God gave me and to pursue my vision wholeheartedly.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. I faced doubts, setbacks, and a steep learning curve. I had to dive into hours of research and figure out how to establish my brand identity, develop my skills, and stand out in a competitive field. But I kept pushing through each challenge, learning patience, perseverance, and the importance of a strong support system. I learned that trusting in my purpose and in the people who support me could help me overcome almost any obstacle.

For anyone learning about *Your Kreative Junkie*, I want them to see a brand that’s built on resilience, faith, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact. My work is about more than just art; it’s about connecting with people and creating pieces that celebrate who they are. I want the world to know that every piece I create is rooted in my story, my journey, and my desire to inspire others to embrace their own unique creativity and purpose.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my leaders, Elijah and Khadijah Griggs. From the very beginning, even before I had any equipment, they entrusted me with all their custom gear. They believed in me and Your Kreative Junkie before it was even an official business, inspiring me to pursue everything God has in store for me—especially in developing my talents and gifts.

I also want to recognize Keyandrea Paige. Without her, I truly don’t think I could have made it this far. She was instrumental in helping me shape my vision and discover my brand identity, pushing me every step of the way.
