We had the good fortune of connecting with Latasha Kinnard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latasha, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Aside from deciding to work for myself, the most transformative decision I’ve made for my success has been redefining what success truly means to me.

For as long as I can remember, I was driven by a relentless desire to achieve and be the best. I once saw this as a strength rooted in ambition. But, over time, I realized that constantly striving to fix something—or someone—left me feeling drained and unfulfilled. Instead of empowering me, it created an insatiable void.

Today, I view success through a holistic lens. It’s not just about accomplishments but about nurturing my physical and mental well-being. Am I eating nourishing food? Do I have fulfilling hobbies outside of work? I’ve come to understand that achievement alone doesn’t equate to love or self-worth. However, prioritizing my health and happiness is a true act of self-love and proof of view on my worthiness.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a holistic wealth coach, there are a few things I love to shout from the mountain tops. But for now, I’ll focus on two.

First, budgeting is not common sense. While it might seem like simply crunching numbers, it’s far more complex than that. Budgeting delves into the heart of what makes us human and stubborn—our emotions. Money touches every part of our lives, and how we handle it often reveals deeper beliefs, habits, and fears that must be acknowledged and addressed.

Second, budgeting is not “one-size-fits-all.” You can’t just create a picture-perfect budget and expect it to fit seamlessly into your life. Your budget needs to be tailored to your personality, lifestyle, and unique way of thinking. It should align with how you naturally operate—not fight against it.

My journey with budgeting started when I was around ten years old. I often share an empowering version of how that came to be, but the reality is that I began budgeting because my parents struggled with managing money. Despite having enough, our finances weren’t handled efficiently, and that made life difficult. This early experience taught me resilience and sparked a drive to understand and master money management.

I’m proud of how I turned challenging circumstances into opportunities, creating systems that not only put money in the bank but also honor each person’s holistic needs. Today, I empower others to craft financial frameworks that reflect their true selves, fostering both wealth and well-being.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
At some point in my life, this city girl fell in love with the great outdoors.

If I had friends coming to town, I would take them to Sweet Water Creek Park, Stone Mountain, Roswell Mill if it’s still accessible, and the beltline near Ponce City Market.

When it comes to food, I would take them to a hole-in-wall Sports Bar called Duckanoo for some of the best Jamaican Seafood, We’d also hit up Desta for an explosion of flavor and round it out with Tuk Tuk Thai resturant.

Outside of that, we’d go to the Dekalb Farmers Market and pick out fresh ingredients to cook together.

For night life, I’d take them to a night of Jazz at TenATL, my “spot” Red Lounge, and reggae night at Club Euro.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to someone whose name I can’t recall, but whose impact I’ll never forget.

Back in high school, I started an application for a special program designed to help Chicago students get into college. I completed half of it, but life got in the way, and I never finished the other half. I assumed it was a missed opportunity.

However, this man took it upon himself to reach out to me. He went as far as coming to my house to personally collect my application. It was an extraordinary act of kindness and grace that put me on the path to attending the college of my dreams. I will forever be grateful for his compassion and dedication.
