We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Schick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe the three most important factors to the success of the CalyRoad brand has been commitment to quality, safe manufacturing and customer service. Inherent in all those commitments is the desire to impart not only consistency to those commitments but to add a unique touch to all products and services.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
CalyRoad began as a farmstead artisan cheese company in 2008. The company developed a grass roots following after selling cheeses in nine markets around the Atlanta area. It’s hard to believe I have been crafting fine cheeses for over 11 years. CalyRoad cheeses have been featured on the menus of a number of fine restaurants in Atlanta , on Delta Airlines and the South Eastern region Whole Foods Markets. In 2019 we won a silver medal in the US Championship Cheese Contest for Bit O’ Blue. What sets us apart from others? Developing great partnerships with dairies who value doing things right! Our most recent partnership has brought CalyRoad back full circle to a farmstead operation with Rock House Farm & Creamery, a family-owned farm specializing in grass fed and grass-finished beef, pork and dairy products. Rock House produces fresh and aged cheeses, milk and ice cream and will add the full line of CalyRoad cheeses in Spring 2021. The creamery hosts farm tours and field trips. They value things done right, even if it takes a little longer. The basis for truly phenomenal dairy products is great tasting milk. All our products start with creamline whole milk from pastured cows that produce a milk high in butterfat. Creamline milk is not homogenized so the cream layer rises to the top. That plus low-temp pasteurization makes Rock House milk as close to natural from the cow as it comes. Rock House chocolate milk won the 2018 Flavor of Georgia Dairy Division and along with CalyRoad’s award winning cheeses we think we have a promising future!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in the city are numerous and vary from inside the perimeter to outside! The first spot I would take my best friend is the Atlanta Botanical Gardens as well as all the typical, beloved tourist destinations like the Zoo, Aquarium and Centennial Park. After that it’s OTP! Canton Street in Roswell for an evening stroll with dinner at Table and Main. For other nights out we would head to Carbonara Trattoria in Dunwoody Village, an extremely popular spot for locals. Daily walks at the numerous parks in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.are a must! After an afternoon of hiking perhaps we would stop at Pontoon Brewing for an ice cold craft beer!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Every cheese maker who shared their experience and expertise with me either personally or in a book they authored!
