We had the good fortune of connecting with Justine Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
“I gotta get out of here!”
“I’ll do it different when I have my own thing.”
“I can’t wait to build my own schedule.”
All of these phrases I repeated were a part of my drive for a certain kind of life. They were a constant reminder for me to go get it.

There were a lot of days I that think about what could have been different. I wished I’d taken more risks and given myself a chance. It makes me think of where I would be now. So, even when I have long days at work, these thoughts of having my own and doing my own thing propelled me to execute.

My mother gave me some great advice which was “do something everyday, big or small.” With this in mind, for the first 6 months, every day after work, I did one little thing. First, was contacting someone to design my logo. It wasn’t hard because I used the same source from a previous business venture. That took about 2 weeks. From there I pushed myself to talk about it, think about it, and speak it into existence. Along with the other hard work behind it all, I officially launched in January 2023.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting to where I am to day has been an uphill battle, but I wouldn’t trade any moment for the things I’ve experienced.

Early mornings, late nights, double shifts, cuts, burns, yelling, crying all had to happen. Those moments, people and places I have memories with created the professional you see today.

The one thing I want people to know about my brand is that it stands for family, love and the pleasure of eating good food that brings you back where you had a comforting home cooked meal.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, we would grab some breakfast at Sun in my Belly. They have some amazing french toast and great egg benedicts. Then we would go for a spa treatment at jeju spa because if that’s my best friend they know were relaxing at least a little. Later, we would head to eat at Chou Lee’s Chinese Restaurant off Panola Rd in Lithonia. It’s one of my favorite places to eat when I’m in the city. To end our time we would go to this cute spot called the The Painted Pin. It’s hidden away with more than just bowling to experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to my parents, Ruben and Terrie. They have always been an inspiration and integral in becoming the person I want to be for God and those around me. I respect thier hustle and take notes as much as I can.

I want to also say thank you to all the chefs I’ve trained under and worked with just to be where I am today. Every recipe, conversation and moment spent has been work it all.
