We had the good fortune of connecting with Lymaira Agosto and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lymaira, how do you think about risk?
I believe risk taking is important for personal development. It keeps you from staying too comfortable in life and you learn more about yourself when you’re pushed out of your comfort zone. From the very beginning when I realized art was my passion, taking a risk is what pushed the pedal to me being the artist I am now. I remember my first risk was applying for an art show in San Antonio, where I lived at the time. All from an AD I saw on Facebook looking for art vendors. I had zero experience, no website, not even an LLC yet, and no guidance. All I had was hope and excitement. And after my first art show, I slowly started learning about how to run a business, how to set up my booth better and even learned how to be confident in talking to potential buyers. It took time and the more risks I took, the more I learned about true myself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe we are spiritual beings living a human experience. So a lot of my art is a reflection of my spiritual beliefs and experience from a woman’s perspective. What I believe sets me apart from others is that even though I do care about making income, I care more about telling real stories through my art. I care more about the viewer’s interpretation in my art and how it relates to their own life. Art is truly subjective.
It wasn’t easy getting to where I am now. It took a lot of risks and letting people go along the way in order to rediscover myself and become free from certain restraints. And art completely helped with that.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along the way is that the journey can be very lonely when you’re going after your passion and purpose. You might have some people in your life that might not fully understand nor support your vision or even take you serious, but it’s not your job to get them to understand that. God gave you the vision for a reason. So I have learned to be ok with everyone not coming with me to the next level of my journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, I’d love to thank God. I’ve prayed numerous times for assistance on finding my passion and purpose and without God, I wouldn’t be where I am now. My mother also deserves so much recognition. Since I was a child she encouraged me to keep creating and even gifted me my first art supplies. She would also tell me how great my drawings were and would even iron my art on t-shirts for me to wear around elementary school lol. I think she also knew art was my true passion way before I knew. And lastly, I’d love to thank my friends and family that has supported me throughout this journey. I’m truly grateful for all the constant encouragement and support.
