We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Boresow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important principles of Leah Boresow Dance (LBD) are 1) to be passionate about dancing and want to share that passion, and 2) to genuinely care about the individual LBD student. I know it seems so obvious, and perhaps even cliche, but I have seen many dance teachers and studios who are in the business for the wrong reasons. Ultimately, I have found that the greatest reward and “return on investment” of my business is when one of my students feels success. Whether it is finally feeling a dance step coming easier, or pushing to perform a dance or compete, I have never felt greater success as both a dance teacher and business owner. By keeping my students’ best interest always at heart, I feel that the success is there from the beginning.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a multi-genre dancer. I have been immersed in so many different dance styles and training and have loved them all. Unlike many dancers who train their craft under 1-3 labels, I stand out by representing multiple different genres of dance, including ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, tap, musical theatre, ballroom, Latin dance, social dance, and more. I have felt that throughout my career, I have stayed true to myself by enjoying each dance style that I have embraced, and because of this, I haven’t felt adversity in my career in that sense. Certain theatres or dance festivals will try to put a label on me, and I cannot blame them. But what makes me the artist that I am is that I am bringing all of my dance exposure and training to the table. People can know and recognize that Leah Boresow Dance is a multi-genre dance school, and we encourage learning different styles and respecting what we do not know.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am such a fan of the city of Atlanta! I always have been, and I do have a few favorite spots. I love the Old 4th Ward neighborhood- it has a greta and welcoming energy. I love the Beltline in that area, especially because of the people it connects and the art that it has on display! I also love theatre, and Atlanta has some great options! I have always loved the Woodruff Arts Center as a hubb of the Alliance Theatre, High Museum, and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Not only does it radiate great art, but its campus is beautiful and open! On a more local level, I love the Shakespeare tavern, you walk in and get transported to the times of William Shakespeare, and the people there are always friendly!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
No shoutout is too big for my family and fiance for supporting my dreams of teaching dance for a living under my own name. Just having those core people who cheer you on, with support, encouragement, and no judgement, is a huge engine to continue doing what I do. I also couldn’t do what I do (quite literally) without the support and trust of each and every one of my students. Every person that comes my way to learn how to dance, no matter their background, trusts me with their time, money, and energy, and it means the world to me. Their joy is my joy, and I couldn’t build my school without their motivation and interest.
