We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Desantis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I would like to be known for more than just taking pretty pictures. It is important to me to forge deep connections with each of my clients through emotive imagery and authentic storytelling. By guiding them into tapping into their emotions and embracing vulnerability, we create powerful works of art together. I want people to feel I’ve captured the essence of their human experience, and show those moments of joy, love, and vulnerability in their photographs.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey to becoming a successful boudoir photography business owner has been both exhilarating and challenging. When I first embarked on this path, I was filled with excitement and passion for my craft, but I quickly realized that turning my passion into a profitable venture would require dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to overcome obstacles.

Starting out I made many mistakes. I faced numerous challenges, from navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship to learning how to effectively manage finances and market my brand. One of the biggest hurdles was understanding the business side of things – from budgeting and cash flow management to marketing and client acquisition.

However, every challenge I encountered served as an opportunity for growth and learning. I sought out mentors, attended workshops, professional conferences, and industry masterminds. It’s so important to immerse yourself in resources that help develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed.
I also learned the importance of resilience and adaptability – being able to pivot and adjust my strategies in response to changing market dynamics and unforeseen circumstances. Covid shutdowns were the first big and scary challenge!

Despite the obstacles, seeing my business grow and thrive has been incredibly rewarding and I was able to build a sustainable and profitable business.

Along the way, I’ve learned valuable lessons about the importance of perseverance, resilience, and staying true to my vision. It’s hard not to compare my business to others, but I have learned to keep blinders on what others are doing and focus on my own ideas. I’ve also discovered the power of building strong relationships with clients and the community, as well as the significance of continuous learning, networking, and innovation of new ideas.

As I reflect on my journey, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. My experience as a business owner has taught me invaluable lessons that I carry with me every day, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my story and inspire others who are on a similar path.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I had the privilege to work alongside a wonderful group of Boudoir photographers under the guidance of Denise Birdsong and her Art of Emotion/Stripped Down workshops. Her methodology changed and elevated the level of my work and took it into something extraordinary. She helped me to create my signature style and build a thriving business.
