We had the good fortune of connecting with Demmette Guidry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Demmette, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was a natural evolution of my passion for Black American music and my desire to nurture young talent. After witnessing the decline of Black Music Divisions within major entertainment companies and feeling the industry shift, I recognized the need to create a space where our music and artists could thrive. As consolidation swept through the entertainment landscape, experienced executives like myself saw an opportunity to become independent and advocate for the voices that were being marginalized.
With over 30 years in the music and entertainment business, I understood the importance of protecting and preserving our art form. As our music and artists were being sidelined in conversations and history books, I knew that I had to take action to ensure their legacy endured. Thus, starting my own company became not just a business decision, but a mission to uphold the integrity and significance of Black American music in an ever-changing industry.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My professional life revolves around my family business, Purple Cow Industries, INC. This enterprise is not just a business venture but a legacy. At Purple Cow Industries, we pride ourselves on our diverse portfolio, which encompasses four main divisions: Music, Film, Tech, and Publishing (Intellectual Property).
Within the Music division, we focus on artist management, music production, and distribution, aiming to amplify the voices of talented artists while fostering a supportive and creative environment. In the Film division, we are dedicated to producing compelling documentaries and impactful cinematic works that resonate with audiences worldwide.
The project to be on the lookout for that we at PCI are excited about is CRUZ The Dame, who is a phenomenal artist and songwriter who creates timeless music and has an incredible live stage show. She is truly a star! In our film division we are extremely excited about our film, Talkin’ Clarksdale: A Contemporary Blues Documentary that will be coming to Film Festivals this year. It’s a captivating documentary that takes viewers on a deep exploration of the origins and enduring legacy of the blues in one of its most pivotal cities. Clarksdale, nestled in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, holds a legendary status as the birthplace of the blues and has been a home to some of the genre’s most iconic and influential musicians.
Beyond our commercial endeavors, we are committed to giving back to our community through our Non-Profit Division, which operates independently under the umbrella of Purple Cow Industries, INC. This division allows us to support charitable causes and initiatives that align with our values and mission as a company. Currently, I am Co-Founder of the Black American Music Foundation and the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame where we preserve, protect and pay homage to the great icons in Black Music & Entertainment.
In essence, Purple Cow Industries, INC. is more than just a business—it’s a family endeavor driven by a passion for creativity, innovation, and making a positive impact in the world of entertainment. Through our diverse divisions and collaborative spirit, we strive to be leaders in our industry while staying true to our core values and commitment to excellence.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
While my journey in the music industry has been shaped by my own determination and hard work, there are many individuals who have played pivotal roles along the way and deserve recognition.
First and foremost, my late mother, Monica Guidry, deserves immense credit for the values she instilled in me as a child growing up in South Central Los Angeles. Her unwavering support and guidance laid the foundation for my success and provided me with the resilience to navigate the challenges of the industry.
Additionally, I am indebted to the mentors and supporters who have guided me throughout my career. Kipper Jones, Ken Wilson, Eddie Sims, Belinda Wilson, Ruben Rodriguez, Eddie Pugh, Graham Armstrong, LaBarron Taylor, and Sandra DeCosta, to name a few, have all played instrumental roles in shaping my professional development and offering invaluable advice and support.
Furthermore, I cannot overlook the profound impact of my college internship at Motown Records. Observing the work of industry veterans like Miller London and Skip Miller ignited my passion for the music industry and set me on the path to pursue a career in this field.
Each of these individuals has contributed in their own unique way to my journey, and I am grateful for their influence, guidance, and support. Their contributions deserve recognition as integral parts of my story.
