We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Stamm and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business/mission was not really a choice. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2007 and was forced to leave a profession that I had hoped to excel in. Following my diagnosis, I decided that I had to turn my new title of being a patient into a passion. I made it my mission to educate, advocate, and support others battling chronic illnesses. I work tirelessly to help lessen the burden each patient has to bear. After the birth of my son in 2016, I shifted my focus to supporting the children of parents with a chronic illness. My children’s book entitled “Some Days: A tale of love, ice cream, and my mom’s chronic illness” was created to normalize differing abilities and amplify how each of us can thrive in spite of the challenges. In 2023, I co-created ‘52 Essential Inclusion Skills – An A to Z Guide to Kindness, Compassion, and Respect for Diverse Abilities’ with Mind Brain Parenting’s, Dr. Jenny Woo. I am dedicated to help those that may feel they have lost their purpose following a diagnosis and serve as a model of what you can achieve regardless of the obstacles.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Living with multiple sclerosis has been a challenging yet transformative experience for me. It has taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of embracing each day with gratitude and positivity. Despite the challenges, I’ve managed to channel my experiences into creative outlets that have resonated with others.

One of my proudest accomplishments is writing a children’s book titled “Some Days: A tale of love, ice cream, and my mom’s chronic illness”. It’s a heartfelt story that navigates the ups and downs of life with a focus on acceptance, kindness, and understanding. Through this book, I’ve been able to connect with young readers and inspire conversations about empathy and inclusion.

Additionally, I co-created the 52 Essential Inclusion Skills deck with Dr. Jenny Woo of Mind Brain Emotion, aimed at helping individuals and organizations foster a more inclusive environment. This project stemmed from our own experiences of navigating inclusion challenges due to our conditions. We wanted to create a resource that not only educates but also empowers people to embrace diversity and create positive change.

My journey to where I am today has not been easy. There were moments of doubt, fear, and uncertainty. However, I’ve learned to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Surrounding myself with a supportive community, staying true to my passions, and maintaining a positive mindset have been crucial in overcoming obstacles.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way are invaluable. I’ve learned the importance of self-care, compassion for others, and the power of resilience. Every setback has taught me tenacity, and every success has reinforced my belief in the impact of advocacy.

What sets me apart is my authentic voice and lived experiences. I believe that transparency and vulnerability are powerful tools for creating meaningful connections and driving change. I hope to inspire others to embrace their unique journeys and make a positive impact in their communities and lives.

Thank you for allowing me to share a glimpse of my story. I’m excited about the journey ahead and the opportunity to continue spreading messages of love, acceptance, and inclusion through my work.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would shoutout my husband and son; Through them I find strength, encouragement, motivation, and purpose. Some days multiple sclerosis can feel defeating (to say the very least); with their love, even the worst of days seem worth fighting for.
