Meet Tammie Mobley | CEO/Founder- R.E.A.L Girlz

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammie Mobley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
R.E.A.L Girlz was formed after losing my job as a Youth Program Director. I was there for seven years and grew the youth program from reaching six youth academically to reaching over 500 youth. I received accolade after accolades for my work, the board decided to let myself and the staff go after financial issues. This happened at the time, that my husband and I had recently purchased our second home and I placed my father in a skilled nursing facility due to his diagnosis of Lewy Body dementia. My first thought was to see full-time employment but my husband along with others suggested I start my own youth program. Even though I created all the activities and curriculum in my previous position, I was unable to use them because it became the intellectual property of the organization.
In 2019, I contacted my son’s school and asked to implement R.E.A.L Girlz as a part of their programming. Before long I was able to get R.E.A.L Girlz into a juvenile correction center and other school districts. However, Covid-19 happened, and the world shut down. My main source for providing R.E.A.L Girlz was in the schools and schools were closed!
A month after schools closed, I was approached by the Virginia Department of Health and a non-profit organization to provide virtual programming. For the remainder of that school year and the summer of 2020, I provided virtual programming and delivered activity packages to students. All of my sessions were booked and had a waiting list of girlz wanting to join the R.E.A.L Girlz Family.
Fast forward to 2024, R.E.A.L Girlz is provided across three school districts in Central Virginia, host a summer program called SumHer Experience and a Mentor and Leadership Academy where high school girlz provide mentorship to elementary school girlz and learn leadership skills through community service and public speaking opportunities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This story is dedicated to the R.E.A.L Girlz. I had the vision, but your creativity and energy keep other girlz wanting to be a part of the R.E.A.L Girlz Family!
