We had the good fortune of connecting with Jevencia Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jevencia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind owning my own business was to make an invaluable change in my local and surrounding communities that could impact the well-being and sustainability of individuals and families. Growing up in Cummings, SC, I can remember the elders of the communities caring for the children; we all took pride in the family unit. As time progressed, I could identify the community’s change in family dynamics as families disengaged due to illness and death or better opportunities motivated the younger generations to relocate to other developed communities and leave their aging families to survive in the rural Lowcountry. This prompted me to “be the change.”

Implementing my business involved incorporating real-world policies, practices, and values to address my target population appropriately. Initially, I was afraid to begin a new adventure, yet I was enthusiastic to see how my business could positively impact me and others in my community. Connect 2 Care is intended to relieve the stress of families knowing their loved ones are being cared for with great intentions and compassion; we also trust our clientele to know we aim to provide the BEST care in the comforts of their homes.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My grandmother’s death sparked my interest in pursuing my passion for assisting others experiencing health challenges. In 2007, I became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Since 2007, I have worked at several long-term, rehab, and memory care facilities throughout the Lowcountry. As well as served as primary caregiver for individuals in homes in the Bluffton and Hilton Head area. Later, in 2010, I graduated from USC Beaufort with a Human Services Degree. I continued to work as a nursing assistant and expanded my services to individuals throughout the Lowcountry. In 2015, I began nursing school and did not complete the program. Not completing nursing school was a major, disappointing mental challenge for me. However, the end was far different than what I anticipated. Even though disappointed, I continued to build my professional portfolio and worked with individual clients within their residences. I realized I was still fulfilling my dream.

In 2020, I became employed with Clemson Extension Services. My employment with extension gave me a “new” love for community-based and health promotion organizations. Additionally, I moved forward and practiced my passion for people! In 2022, I began Connect 2 Care LLC and Clemson’s Master of Public Administration program. Forward to 2024, May 10, 2024, is graduation from Clemson’s MPA program, and Connect 2 Care LLC is successfully serving clientele in the Lowcountry. So, “It’s not where you start, but just as long as you finish!”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

SCORE of the Lowcountry has provided the foundational knowledge to begin my own nonmedical company. Their 24-resource library has been very impactful in the success of Connect 2 Care. Additionally, SCORE has given me access to two influential mentors- Ramona Fantini and Jay Kulkin. Ramona and Jay, thank you for believing in my dream! These two individuals have given me unwavering support and assisted me in ensuring Connect 2 Care is operational to its most significant potential.
Also, John C. Maxwell’s “How Successful People Think” and “The Maxwell Daily Reader” have assisted in developing my leadership skills. Throughout my entrepreneurial journey, I have read and often referenced these literary works.
A special thanks to my children, Jaden Robinson and Journei Jenkins, for constantly pushing me to my most significant potential. These last two ladies, Carnelia J. Smith (forever my angel) and Bernice Hill, thanks for always showing me strength and resilience! You all are the attributes of my success stories.
