We had the good fortune of connecting with Karisma Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karisma, how do you think about risk?
I served in the Air Force as a cop for 5 years, on the east coast. I’ve also deployed to Afghanistan for 9 months. I feel like I’ve always been sort of a risk taker. It wasn’t until I decided to separate from the service to do music, when I realized first hand. I announced back in December 2023 that I’m a country singer. I released my debut single “Made For Me” on all platforms. I decided to give up my military career to chase my dreams. It took me a while to get to this point in my life but I can still say, It’s one of the best decision I’ve ever made. A lot of people join the military service because of job security and financial stability. People who aren’t goal driven or have dreams, will stay in for 20 years and retire. I’m not saying the military is bad but, It just wasn’t for me. I served my time. I had to take that risk on myself. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy and anything that’s easy, isn’t worth doing! I didn’t want to be that person that got older and thought to myself, “I should’ve chased my dreams”.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a black country artist. Choosing the genre was so simple. I was raised in a small southern town, way down south. I’m biracial, my mother is white and my dad is black. I was raised by my mother’s side of the family. To me, country music is like an easy Sunday morning. Most melodies are calm, soft and sweet. Although I do country music, I’m a versatile artist. I can sing Gospel and R&B as well. I believe that’s one thing that sets me apart. The biggest thing that sets me apart, is me. I just be myself. In a world full of imposters, I can honesty say, I’m authentically me. My personality can light up a room and it speaks for itself. Right now in my music career, I’m most proud of myself for taking the risk and sticking to it. Nothing in life is easy and I’m sure it’s going to get even harder. The challenges I’ve faced when I launched my music career, are normal challenges. I’m just now getting my feet wet so, I lack a lot of music knowledge. I’ve learned to just do it. Submit the music and do the work! Your dreams and goals are worth fighting for! I want the world to know that it’s okay to bet on yourself. To bet on your dreams and goals. To chase things that may seem unrealistic to the average person. Keep doing what you’re doing and remember to always put GOD first!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Visiting my hometown in Cairo, GA is a place everyone should have, on their bucket list. You have to come during football season. It’s nothing like watching them Syrup-makers play on a Friday night. If you’re looking for southern and western style outfits, visit The Ranchy Peach Boutique. They have everything you can think of and you can customize your own cowgirl hat right there in the store. Do you have sweet tooth? Well, Sweet & Sassy Kake’s can make you any type of cake and she makes treats as well. You can find her on face book under “Sweet & Sassy Kake’s LLC. One of the best spots to get dinner in my hometown is a place called “Mr. Chick”. Man ole Man, they have the best food. They have a sauce called Jason sauce that they put on the Chicken strips, that are named after the owner Jason. Get you some of those strips, lemonade and dessert and your’e good for the night. If you have a little extra time to spare, and you like coffee like me, drive on down to Tifton, GA to Espresso41 and get you some fresh brewed coffee, lunch or dinner. It’s so many hidden gems in Cairo and the surrounding area. I can guarantee that you will have a great time!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I have to give all the praise to Jesus, my lord and savior! I pray and talk to him on the daily. It’s not one prayer that I’ve prayed that he hasn’t answered. Secondly, I would like to say thank you to my family (mom, sister & niece) for always supporting me in everything I do. They have been there with me every step of the way, good and bad! I would also like to give a shoutout to my hometown and childhood friends in Cairo, GA for supporting me and never leaving my side over the years. Thank you to the people that I’ve served with in the military that told me I have something special and to chase my dreams and to never look back! Lastly, I would like to say thank you to the people that are in the music industry that have reached out to me and have picked up my phone calls, whenever I needed help. I’m just so grateful for the support system that I have and I ask everyone to continue to give me grace along this journey.
