Meet Theresa Caldwell Jenkins | Non-profit founder and survivor of child sex trafficking and physical abuse

We had the good fortune of connecting with Theresa Caldwell Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Theresa, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want people to remember me as a survivor of Human Trafficking that didn’t let my past define me. I took my trauma and turned it into success. That other survivors don’t have to let what happen to them define their life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a survivor of child sex trafficking. I started my nonprofit organization 8 years ago in Washington DC. The organization was started because I wanted to help children and adults who have went through what I have went through to have a safe space and have help. I didn’t want to them to feel alone as I did.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well if I had friends to come into the city I would take them to my favorite place Hattie’s Marie’s Texas style BBQ & Cajun Kitchen in College Park Georgia. They have the best barbecue in the city! The next day I would take them to Atlanta Breakfast club for breakfast. Our next stop would be Southern Queenz where the soul food is every thing. The best lounges in Atlanta are Cru Lounge and The Rose bar. It’s a must when I’m the ATL
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this issue to my children who I love more then life itself. Keenin, Rasheema, and Antonio. My two grandchildren: Bryson & Evan
