We had the good fortune of connecting with Sa’id Salaam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sa’id, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from New York city in general, the Bronx in particular and High Bridge to be specific. It was the whole world combined in one place. A lot of my fictional characters are based on real people. The Bronx made me fearless.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an artist who paints vivid pictures through words. I view my art as a gift from God since its definitely not from myself. I’ve struggled with ADHD as well as being on the autism spectrum so words are really my safe space. I live inside of my own head most of the time. It’s the only place I can truly be myself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is such a magnificent city but I would begin the tour with Al Forooq masjid in downtown Atlanta. It’s such a diverse community it opens doors to literally every segment of the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Tisha Andrews for her unwavering support.
