We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Cato and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bianca, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by making ideas into actualities. I began my creative career early in high school, working at the Clayton County Performance Arts Center as an Associate Technician. Being a theater technician was all about taking these creative concepts and ideas and making them come to life. That foundational experience has been a key driver in how I operate in many areas of my life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the founder of Audio_Video_Club, a Projector & Screen, dedicated to the exploration of visuals and sound through events, exhibits, and workshops. We aspire to change the way people view, perceive, engage, and experience forms of audio/visual creative works. We strive to put films (other creative works) on display in interesting ways. Unlike other film organizations, we want to make films more approachable, no matter your interest or skill level, we want to provide opportunities for people to engage with the art of film/cinema.
I started the organization during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the idea of gathering people to watch films and create community during an extremely isolated time. Simply popping up a screen in the parking lot of 97 Estoria in Cabbage has now grown into a diverse community of filmmakers and film enthusiasts who gather 2-4 times a month for a variety of film-based events. Thanks to great community partners like ATLFilmParty, Videodrome, and The Plaza, along with awesome volunteers, we have been able to execute some great events.
And this is only the beginning! We are still very much in the development phase of things, as we continually try new things and explore new ideas, working towards finding better ways to serve and strengthen our community. We are very excited about some of the new ideas we have in the pipeline.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are in the city, you have to do the following:
+ Grab a drink or a meal at 97 Estoria, they are in the vibrant community of Cabbagetown and often have fun things going on like Trash & Trivia ( Every 2nd Monday)
+ If you are a movie buff like myself, you have to catch a flick at The Plaza. They have everything from blockbusters to indie award winners to cult classics.
+ If you prefer to stay in, I would rent a movie from Videodrome and grab a bottle of wine from Elemental Spirits Co.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that I would love to credit for the path that I have paved thus far. But for this instance, I would like to shout out to my 10th-grade English teacher, Mrs. Thompson. Who helped me to expand my creative horizons, through theater. I was failing her class and she gave me an ultimatum that has forever changed my life -thrusting me into the world of creative pursuits.
