Meet Mona Swain | Actress – Influencer – Activist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mona Swain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mona, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
My biggest contributing factor to my success has been, and still is, maintaining consistency. This is the simplest piece of advice I could give to any young creative, but it is easily one of the hardest things to execute. Life happens and makes consistency difficult to maintain, especially if it seems there isn’t any payoff. The seemingly rapid career trajectory of the newest up-and-coming celebrities didn’t just happen overnight; they had a dedicated pursuit of their dreams.
Another habit I’ve adopted is not caring about what other people think. This is much easier said than done, trust me, I know. But as soon as I stopped caring about what my peers think, I was able to really take my creativity to the next level. Your biggest fans may not be the people you thought they would be, and that’s okay. The people you know are NOT your target audience. In an interview, someone asked Will Smith what his advice would be for someone who really wanted to do something but was too afraid to do it. He replied, “Do it scared.” That mindset has truly changed my life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a singer, dancer, actress, and musician through and through. I’ve also been blessed enough to be able to monetize and have a career off of just being me. I’ve been able to cultivate an audience by authentically sharing my personal life experiences and my experiences as a performer. In the age of social media, it’s a lot easier to build a real relationship with your audience, and it’s such a beautiful thing.
This hasn’t been an easy journey. I’m young and still learning, and I was even younger when I started. I was 18 when I began doing social media. Having a public or semi-public life during some of your most formative years would be hard for anyone. I hope that in sharing my life and craft for as long as I have been, it’s been able to inspire others as others have inspired me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I grew up in Smyrna which is just 15 minutes outside of the city then moved to Buckhead as a young adult.
Even though Atlanta is such a big and lively city, Georgia in general is still very green. I love being anywhere outdoors in the south. Walking around Piedmont park on a nice day is such a dream! If I’m going out, the Atlanta Braves stadium just after a game is so much fun! Right after a game all the families and older couple head out but typically the younger crowd sticks around a bit. You’ll definitely run into some interesting people.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a shoutout to my family. My mom, my brother and my sister. All three of them have always given my the space and support to get to where I wanted to go.
