We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney McGinty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, why did you pursue a creative career?
My decision to pursue an artistic career was kind of always in my cards I would say. Innately, I am an artist. I have been drawing, painting, and just creating things ever since I could hold a pencil. I have had a profound imagination, even as a child I have always seen the world differently than most of my peers and family members. My mother also played an immensely important part of encouraging me to dream big and to go after those dreams at all costs. As life continued for me, I noticed how my creative expression made people around me view themselves in a better light; and that is when I knew that I just had to see my passion through. I have had countless of cooperate jobs/internships since I was sixteen, and although I thrived in those environments, they never fully satisfied me. I feel closer to God being in my industry of beauty, like He uses me to relay his message to people in an indifferent but unique way. So honestly I do believe that this creative career chose me and I could not be more gratefull.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Beauty Specialist and what sets me apart from other artists in my industry is my innate eye and love for art. Each person that sits in my chair is not only a new blank canvas that I have never seen before, but also a true test to my natural skill set as an artist. I would say that the most exciting part about what I do is being an ear to listen as well as a therapist almost to my clients; how the feel when they leave my chair energetically and emotionally with a newfound sense of confidence, hope, and enlightenment is truly what makes it all worthwhile. I have been in the industry for ten years now and the only thing that has come easy to me is my talent. I am a self taught artist as it pertains to makeup. I did attend cosmetology school while in high school, completing dual enrollment for the knowledge and licensing of hair, skincare, and nails. After graduating both high school and cosmetology school in 2015 my number one supporter in life, my mother, unfortunately passed away. She was my only family for the first part of my young adult life, and she taught me that when life happens you have to roll with the punches, pull yourself up and keep going. It is because of her that I have been able to navigate through the challenges of this industry with wisdom, grace, perseverance, and resiliency. Being in what most would consider an over saturated market, finding your niche, taking trends and correlating them with your niche is the formula for success. Staying true to yourself, your brand, and what you stand for is what takes you far. Blended Beats Beauty. That is my motto, and my business, and that is what I always want the world to know when it encounters me! Life and beauty is more than skin deep, it is what you are made up of on the inside is what sticks with people, not what they see on the outside.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love my city, I am a true ATLien and the essence of my city is truly inspiring. I also love introducing people to all that Atlanta has to offer a their hidden gems. On the initial arrival from Hartsfield-Jackson ATL my go-to places to stay would be The Renaissance off concourse parkway, Kempton Overland Hotel, or if you’re looking to stay in the heart of downtown it would be the Artmore hotel. These specific places are filled with a beautiful ambiance unique to its own, and has amazing services and amenities. While on their stay, the top food places that are coupled with great drinks would be Stefans ATL. Amalfi, Baltimore Crab and Seafood, Garden Parc, Fox Brothers, Coffee and Eggs, Canoe, Breakfast at Barneys to just name a few. I am a foodie so I could go on but those are some of my top picks that you are guaranteed a great experience, food, and drinks.
Another few stops to check out and hang out while in Atlanta would be the Porsche Experience Center, Little Five Points, The Botanical Garden, Fernbank Museum & Science Center, The Georgia Aquarium, The world of Coca-Cola, Chateau Elan Spa to name a few. I love embarking on the experience of going out in Atlanta, because every time you are out it is truly a unique experience. The diversity and. Cultural essence is what I love the most about my city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, I would definitely love to commend James Ford and Jasmine Burch on their unwavering support and encouragement on my journey and where I am right now. I truly believe also that having likeminded people in your corner helps to make the path more bearable. I would also love to recognize my lovely mother for all that she instilled into me and creating in me the woman that I am today; and of course God for keeping me and placing me in the right environments with the people meant to impact my path.
