We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Romain-Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being in an industry that’s a luxury for many, it makes sense that there’s a certain image attached to estheticians and spas. Having been a client myself to upscale spas I can understand the intimidation that a place of prestige can have on a client.

So the idea behind my spa was to make a place that’s welcoming and down to earth for all. No matter your background or gender everyone of my clients will be treated the same and made to feel at ease from the moment they check in to the minute they get off my table.

What should our readers know about your business?
My is spa is based in a holistic view of skincare. What you put in your body is just as important as what you put on your skin. Our skin is our largest organ and it reflects everything your body is going through on its surface. I also believe in treating every skin type I come across as sensitive skin , because I also incorporate Korean skincare methods into my practice. I’ve noticed going slow and steady with advanced treatments helps get my clients the best results.

It’s how I got to where I am today. Other than all of the training I’ve done in Massachusetts for the past three years, my holistic methods have brought me a clientele that was looking for someone who did more than just a basic service. They found someone who listens them and their bodies’ needs

Which means in a typical skin analysis service I’m not just looking at your face, I’m also asking questions about your diet, allergies, home/work life, and what ever else may factor into your skin’s health. .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were to take a little vacation in the city, my first stop would be hitting up as many restaurants I could off of Buford before slowly making my over to Duluth. You can probably find almost every nationality off off of that highway if you try hard enough. While saving yourself a pretty penny. I’m not into over hyped trendy restaurants that can litter the city’s food scene these days.

For a low key night out I’d either check out The Atlanta Botanical Garden for a beautiful night time stroll or have some fun with friends at The Plaza Theatre. If I’m trying to have a more spontaneous night out I’d definitely hit up The Basement, My Sister’s Room, or Mary’s for dancing or a drag show.

Then to wrap the week up I’d go for a little hike at Arabia Mountain and watch the sunset.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My community deserves a huge shoutout for all the love and support that has gotten this far in my career. From my wonderful husband that has helped me get through my training and my spa suite, my mother for helping me purchase supplies and letting us crash at her house.

My beautiful big sister and her equally beautiful medicinal greenhouse ( checkout Bed Head Plants!) for her words of encouragement and plethora of business ideas.

My wonderful friends that were even more excited than I was about my new business.

And lastly to my former boss/business mentor/ friend Sarah Barbosa (owner or Skinspot Med Spa in Hanson, MA). Who pushed me to go solo, and who has given me the tools to do so.
