We had the good fortune of connecting with Latasha Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Latasha, why did you pursue a creative career?
I honestly believe in the saying, “I didn’t choose it, it chose me.” Being creative and artistic is in my DNA. There was something internally within me that was sparked by movement, by creating, playing instruments, listening to music, and just the frequency I felt from watching other beings dance and be creative. I also love watching how creatives do what they do, and seeing how impactful it is to many others around the world, even for individuals who may not be in that world. It’s overall a feeling that can’t be put into one description or phrase. It’s beyond this world. It makes me feel good all over. Mentally, physically, spiritually and I just don’t get that from everything else. When I did make the decision to pursue it with all of me, that is what changed my life. Making that decision to ooze creativity from within at every second I got that chance to.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My baby!!! Heel Talk LLC! I was very intentional and strategic about my brand, I wanted to make sure that as I progress in life that my brand and business could not be put into a box. Although I started with dance classes with heels, I knew that I wanted to do more in life with the brand and grow it into a multifaceted business. I have been able to do that thus far and there is still so much that I have in store for Heel Talk. Through my business I’ve taught dance classes, hosted my very own women’s empowerment events, sold merchandise and accessories, created a mentorship group, offered consulting services, wrote my own Heel Talk magazine, designed my very own Heel Talk Trench coats (in which I sold some and rented some out for video shoots). I’ve also done speaking events, provided content visuals for not just dancers but for anybody who felt like being creative (Heel Talk Mastery). Heel Talk has recently come out with a line of holistic herbs mainly for women. If you need a choreographer or instructor for your birthday party, for a bachelorette party, teens party, and a ladies night celebration, Heel Talk provides that as well. I’m making sure that there is no limit to my business. These are all the things I’m proud of, and I’m very much excited for what’s to come next year for Heel Talk. I am revamping everything, and I now know more when it comes to the foundation of a business. I got as much done as I did just by researching on my own, and asking questions whenever I came into contact with other entrepreneurs. None of it was easy, everything was challenging. Some days you think you have everything figured out and then BOOM, another challenge arises that may slow you down from the timeframe that you wanted to complete something. It’s a process and you have to trust it. Just knowing that will help you see the bigger picture for what you truly want. BIG lessons I’ve learned along the way are to trust the timing and process, to have patience, to start with one product at a time and see how well it does first, to be consistent, to do the groundwork and create a business plan to get the funding you need instead of spending your own. When you do spend your own, plan it out strategically. I want the world to know that we have had many setbacks, expected ones, depressing ones, hurtful ones, but ultimately, it’s all a part of the journey and it doesn’t mean that we stop. We only rest, reset, and go for what we want. Heel Talk LLC will be all over the world in many positive, creative, and impactful ways.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, let’s see! There is so much to do!!! But it’s a little simpler I think now, than let’s say if I was asked this question when I had just arrived lol! But let’s see…. itinerary would be:
1. The Loft Atlanta- a good quality gym. We would definitely try to hit the Glute Camp classes. Or E.F.F.E.C.T Fitness, I love that space too!
2. Back home to shower and get dress nicely.
3. Breakfast at Barney’s- the food is good, love the grits and the face that they have vegan options, the atmosphere is nice, and they have mimosas.
4. Go shopping and browse the malls. I don’t go often so I would more than likely go with my best friend and show the good stores. Maybe Lennox or Atlantic Station.
5. Visit Ponce City Market, Chattahoochee Food Works, Little Five Points for the culture and oh and The Battery Atlanta. Eat at one of the many great places. Great shops and food. OR Pashaaa! Loved that place, great atmosphere and food.
5. Karaoke at the Battery or 10th and Piedmont where I would see my dance friends and let me friend experience that fun.
6. Shower, Get dressed.
7. Go to a lounge or club.. or both! Not sure which ones off the top of my head, but we would go for sure.
Other places would be the parks during the afternoon when everyone is out there vibing, the wholesale stores so we can talk about business, any networking events that are happening or concerts, dance events. ETC.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love this soooo much!!! You said it right, there are so many things and individuals that have contributed to a person’s success. A few years ago, I decided to write letters to people who have been a part of my journey and my success story in some way that was more impactful that they probably thought it was. I called the letters Heel Talk “Flowers.” I wanted to give people who willingly made efforts to make a difference in my success (some letters I still need to give out lol). With that being said, I would like to shoutout family, friends, and loved ones who have been there to support me, show me love, and remind me to keep pushing. My immediate family, lord knows when I needed you all and you all came through when you could. Thank you! I would like to shoutout my prayer warriors, we had some weird times together both near and far. I would like to shoutout my college (North Carolina A&T SU) and Couture Productions for my starting foundation after entertaining family members at family reunions. Those moments were reminders that I had something special for the world to witness. I would like to thank Laurieann Gipson for seeing something in for the dance reality show, “Born To Dance” because that’s when I knew that I was going to pursue dance with my all going forward. I would like to shoutout my dance family, those who have been there right by my side along the way. I will forever be grateful and appreciate our times together. Boy did we have a great journey seeing each other at our highs and even lows and still pushing through together. Thank you to every choreographer, dance instructor, creative director and dancer for keeping me inspired, motivated, for the training, for the gems given, and for trusting me to deliver me through your works. I would like to shoutout my supporters, those who seen the manifestations come into fruition and knew I didn’t just get lucky but saw the hard work I put in and witnessed the blessings that I received for following my spirit. I would like to shoutout Max Lucado for the book, “Fearless, that book changed my entire mindset just when I was having a breakthrough moment and didn’t know where I was headed with my career. ” From there, things started rolling right into place. And most importantly, I would like to thank the Most High for being my rock always no matter what. Thank you to myself as well, you’ve outdone yourself, and we still have so much more to accomplish. One thing I would say, always remember how much your love, support, words, and actions can impact someone’s success.
