We had the good fortune of connecting with Corinne Milien and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corinne, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business, WRK, was deeply rooted in my passion for connecting talented individuals with organizations in the sports, media, and entertainment industry. Through my extensive network of business leaders and owners, I recognized a shared challenge — the need for not just finding good talent but also retaining them effectively. I wanted to bridge this gap and provide a valuable resource for businesses seeking diverse and exceptional talent.
Furthermore, my commitment to the industry extended beyond talent acquisition. Through my nonprofit, the Winning Edge Leadership Academy, I had already been contributing to the development of underrepresented talent in the sports, media, and entertainment world. Starting WRK allowed me to expand my impact and create opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
In essence, WRK was born out of a dual mission: to assist businesses in finding the right talent and to empower individuals, particularly those underrepresented in the industry, to realize their full potential. My thought process was driven by the desire to make a meaningful change in an industry I am deeply passionate about, benefiting both organizations and aspiring professionals.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
WRK is a people-powered consulting firm that specializes in unlocking the potential of individuals and organizations within the sports, media, and entertainment industries. Our core mission is to empower leaders and companies, helping them thrive and reach new heights of success.
What sets WRK apart is our unique approach to problem-solving and strategic thinking. We offer tailored solutions under three distinct verticals: Employee Experience, Leadership Strategy, and Strategic Partnerships. Our diverse portfolio of services allows us to address the specific needs of our clients comprehensively. From streamlining processes to fostering inclusive leadership and forming strategic partnerships, WRK is dedicated to driving growth and success.
As the founder and CEO of WRK, I’m incredibly proud of the journey we’ve embarked on. Our success is a testament to our relentless commitment to making a positive impact. The path to where we are today wasn’t always easy, but we’ve thrived by embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. One of the many key lessons I learned from serving in the United States Air Force and as the last graduate assistant for the legendary Pat Summitt is the importance of adaptability and continuous learning. The business landscape is ever-evolving, and staying ahead requires agility and a forward-thinking mindset.
What I want the world to know about WRK is that we are more than just a consulting firm; we are strategic partners who are deeply passionate about the success of our clients. We believe in the power of collaboration, diversity, and innovation. Our team is dedicated to helping individuals and organizations reach their full potential, and we look forward to continuing this journey of empowerment and growth in the years to come.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a heartfelt shoutout to the adidas Social Impact team and their Cultivate + B.L.O.O.M accelerator program. This incredible initiative has played a pivotal role in my entrepreneurial journey. Not only did it provide me with invaluable resources to build and grow my business, but it also offered a platform to expand my network and connect with like-minded individuals who share my passion for driving positive change in and with sports.
Their commitment to elevating Black and Latinx entrepreneurs through this program is truly commendable. It’s a testament to their dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion within the business world. The support and opportunities I’ve received through Cultivate + B.L.O.O.M have been instrumental in my growth as a business owner, and for that, I am immensely grateful. This shoutout is a small token of appreciation for the doors they’ve opened and the connections they’ve facilitated. It’s a reminder that success is often a collective effort, and I’m honored to have had adidas as a partner on this remarkable journey.
