We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Reed Armbruster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey Reed, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
During yoga teacher training in college, I felt called to make the yoga practice my purpose in life. Yoga created a safe space for me to learn, grow, and accept myself and with that came an insurmountable sense of peace and empowerment. I wanted to share the internal discipline that improved my life, with the world.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Truthfully, I am proud of myself for doing what I love. Regardless of the financial hardships yoga can bring as a career, I find so much peace in knowing that I am helping others not only to feel better physically, but to actually change their lives. Finding this purpose is what motivates me every day to keep going no matter what challenges I meet along the way. I continue to put my whole heart into my work, while sharing my story along the way so that my students can relate to me— a human living in a spiritual experience. It has not been easy to stick with the path less traveled. I’ve opted out of the corporate schedule and into the corporate world to heal it and it’s SO WORTH IT. Every time I breathe, every time I step onto my mat, every time I find myself reacting differently to an old trigger; I am reminded of the power of the practice and the value of what I do in this world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite thing to do in Atlanta is visit the Botanical Gardens. Depending on the time of year, they have fun exhibits, displays, and awesome concerts. Plus, it’s always nice to visit our plant friends and appreciate the ground we walk on. Atlanta also has a ton of fun breweries. Some of my favorites are Sweetwater Brewing, Scofflaw Brewing, and Wild Heaven Brewing (where I teach yoga on Sundays). For a chill afternoon to picnic or frisbee, Piedmont Park is always a hit!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Kristine Kaoveri Weber of Subtle Yoga, LLC was totally my inspiration to create my own flavor in the yoga world. The idea for the name “Innercise” actually came from a class I attended with her. Weirdly, later on when recollecting the story and seeking permission from my fellow teacher trainees to use the word “Innercise” for my brand… it seemed that I was the only one to remember this epiphany moment! I knew right then, Innercise Yoga was meant to be something I created.
