We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Gullatt and we’ve shared her insights briefly below.

Hi Natalie, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Black Marketers Association of America (BMAA) is designed to help connect Black Marketers with one another to continue to grow in the marketing industry. When Black Marketers are successful, so is overall society. Black Marketers bring value because of our awareness and experience of success. We know what it means to be overlooked and different but we also know how to see the world from other views. Black Marketers are essential to the business arena and society overall which is why BMAA is dedicated to helping them succeed and helping organizations and businesses gain more access to them. One reason it’s important to hire Black Marketers is because data has shown that when you have a diverse team, people from different backgrounds, looking different and other things that provide a variety of ideas and areas help spark greater innovation. It makes business sense to hire Black Marketers. Another reason it’s important to hire Black Marketers is, there exists a lack of representation in the marketing space. So much talent is underutilized because Black Marketers aren’t being hired and that’s overall bad for business and society.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, first I will share my background. I’m an Atlanta native and graduate of Emory University. Prior to that I went to Frederick Douglass High School in the inner city of Atlanta. My parents stressed the importance of education but because no one in her family had entered law or corporate America, I wasn’t sure how to navigate that path. I knew about Emory and was told it was an amazing school, so I set my sights on attending one of the best schools in my mind. I knew I wanted to be successful and I figured school was my best way to do that. Originally on a pre-law path, I didn’t expect to be working as a marketing professional but after taking some time off I learned more about marketing, obtained my MBA from Case Western Reserve University, and the rest is history. It was an arduous journey but between my family supporting, encouraging and believing in me, I kept working and now I am very happy with the road I am on.

Currently I’m working as a Customer Marketing Manager specifically in B2B marketing. I’m an experienced strategic and passionate marketing professional with a focus on marketing strategy, social media marketing, digital marketing and customer marketing. As a Marketing leader with team working skills, five years full time experience in inbound marketing, marketing strategies, social media marketing strategies and customer advocacy and customer retention initiatives in the B2B space and seven years full time work experience with content management skills, I help companies grow their revenue and maintain their brand presence in their industry. I am also the founder of the Black Marketers Association of America (BMAA). BMAA is an organization that helps marketers of color with fulfilling careers through full time marketing jobs, through owning marketing agencies and businesses, a safe space for persons wanting to learn more about marketing and marketing enthusiasts! The goal is to help black marketers grow into marketing leaders and well rounded professionals through networking and professional development.

Outside of work and marketing, I spend time volunteering, enjoying theater plays, museums, listening to music and movies. I love the arts!

Quick Fun Fact: I’m currently a Top 1% LinkedIn Publisher in Marketing & Advertising Industry (SSI) and I sang in Carnegie Hall when I was 11 in a children’s choir, but do not ask me to sing now as I need training to sound good now.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most of my friends, if not all of them, have lived in Atlanta so places we would want to go are probably closed now. If there is a new person to town and never been to Atlanta, I would do the tourist treatment because many natives never go to the tourist spots like the Coca Cola Factory, which I love or the Aquarium. Since I like museums and the arts, I would definitely say let’s go to the High Museum cause I love the rotating exhibits they have. Lastly, brunch in Atlanta is a thing and honestly food is in general so I would say Sweet Auburn has great food to start food exploration.

Who deserves some credit and recognition for all the achievements and things you have done professionally and with your organization Black Marketers Association of America?
Other than my family, which includes my parents and sisters, I would like to recognize the BMAA board, Justin Malone, Nicole Gullatt, Chi Johnson, Jhanay Davis, Brandon Beal, Taylor Thomas and Bianca Rainwater Goldman.
