We had the good fortune of connecting with Katy Galli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katy, what do you attribute your success to?
My faith is the most important factor behind the success of my Keep Moving Forward brand. In pursuit of helping all current and former athletes successfully transition out of the sporting world and into the real world, a key to this success is identity in something far greater than sport. If you’ve done something your whole life, and because you dedicated your life to this craft, you believed that was the only value you had to give to the world. It’s easy to fall into the trap that your worth begins and ends with your athletic career. But that is not true. An athlete competing in sport is not who you are, it is a thing you do. Even in the creation of KMF and 4+ years later, this is still something I grapple with, but because of this platform and because of my faith, I know better now. When I graduated college and I felt my world falling apart around me because I did not know who I was if I was not a track & field athlete, I took to the internet, searching for an answer to this identity crisis I was struggling through. All I seemed to find, though, was blog post after blog post of young athletes lamenting about the fact that their athletic careers came to a close. Feeling as if they had no choice but to disappear into the professional world, leaving the only thing they ever really wanted to do behind them. I did not like this. I was certain there had to be a positive narrative out there about how athletes can successfully transition. When I did not find exactly what I was looking for, I created the platform I most needed myself. I began interviewing successfully transitioned athletes about how they navigated their journeys, captured them in audio format, and published them as episodes of my Keep Moving Forward Podcast (today this podcast is nested underneath my KMF Collective with other media content I create, as well.) As I began curating these stories, a common thread seemed to be these athletes putting their faith in something far greater than self. In not allowing themselves to be defined by earthly things, they discovered their worth did not begin or end on their chosen field of sport. This struggle with identity is just that, a daily struggle – no matter how far removed from sport you are – but when you are rooted in something not fleeting, something constant and unwavering, you may begin to realize your worth is not dependent upon any one thing you achieve in this life. It rests in something far greater than just yourself. Keep Moving Forward in itself is not a religious podcast, it is one where athletes and individuals of all backgrounds can hopefully tune in and hear a story that resonates with them. But for me, my faith was instrumental in the creation of this platform and continues to guide me further into this KMF movement.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Both Keep Moving Forward and coaching CrossFit at One Fellowship Fitness in Roswell are two of my biggest passions and I guess you could call them my “side-hustles.” During the day, I get to work as a Marketing & Media Manager at a small tech company in Marietta. Working there allows me such a unique opportunity to learn about an industry I did not know about before and to really hone my skills in the marketing and media spaces.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is an amazing place with so many great things to do. Of course we would go walk the beltline and hang out at Ponce City Market. But the most important place I would take them to is One Fellowship Fitness in Roswell. It is a staple in the community and the gym I am lucky enough to coach at and be a member of. Anyone visiting Atlanta has to stop by One Fellowship.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not have accomplished anything without the unwavering support of my incredible family and friends.
