We had the good fortune of connecting with Rakee Chen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rakee, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk is the catalyst for art, and in the fashion industry, where creativity thrives, taking bold risks and embracing innovation are key to standing out. I always keep an eye on emerging technologies and believe these innovations are accompanied by risks. We need repeated experiments, lots of research and countless time costs. Often, it feels like a personal battle, but what I find most valuable is the process of taking these risks. If expectations aren’t met, I view it as an opportunity rather than a setback. These adventures bring me fresh inspiration and connections with others in diverse fields.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m passionate about learning, and this year, I won the Rookies award for my digital fashion work. Since 2020, I’ve been working with 3D software, and I’ve seen the potential it holds for the fashion industry. With the rise of the metaverse and changing market trends, I’ve been actively learning different techniques, from modeling to interaction. I respect the traditional aspects of fashion, but I believe the future of design lies in combining and continually improving with technology.

Starting something new can be tough. While I was learning and improving, I reached out to people from different fields for advice. I’ve learned to be humble and open-minded in these interactions. We all have different opinions and styles, and that’s okay. I’ve adjusted my mindset to value their input without losing confidence in my own path. It’s about finding a balance between learning from others and staying true to myself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In addition to the well-known attractions like the Coca-Cola Company and the Olympic Park, Atlanta holds a hidden treasure trove of art and culture within its neighborhoods. One place I would absolutely take my friends is Little Five Points, a neighborhood bursting with creative energy. the streets come alive with artistic expression. We’d embark on a shopping adventure, exploring the charming boutiques and vintage stores. The variety of unique finds, from vintage clothing to handcrafted artworks, would be sure to delight us.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to express my gratitude to my first employer in the U.S., Jennifer McGee. She’s an experienced painting artist and business owner with two decades of expertise. During my time with her, I gained invaluable experiences. We attended exhibitions, worked on event planning, and had insightful discussions about design and life. Our conversations about different cultures were eye-opening, and I cherish those interesting moments we shared.

As an international student, I was far from my hometown ,while Jennifer always showed understanding and care. She treated me like a member of her family. I learned not only about the industry but also about the importance of mentorship Genuinely thankful for her kindness.
