We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Prange and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I actually have two!

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” – Charles R. Swindoll
I have always been a half glass full type of person. Challenges and misfortune are inevitable. I’m convinced that the pain associated with them, and the respective recovery time, is minimized with the right mindset. And who doesn’t enjoy being surrounded by positive people?

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs
Need I say more? I never truly understood this until I left corporate America and the security it provided to pursue my passion and start Renovation Sells. I feel that I am doing the best work of my life and have never felt more rewarded!

What should our readers know about your business?
What started as a weekend hobby of buying investment properties to rehab over 20 years ago has developed into a passion business for me today. Renovation Sells is a home renovation company that specializes in pre-sale renovations. We help homeowners make cosmetic improvements to their homes that will increase their value and sell faster.

What sets us apart is our emphasis on design, focusing on smart updates that make the right first impression, and commitment to relationships. Our success is a result of completing quick renovations that deliver a strong return on investment, as well as our dedication to quality. Our average project is completed in less than 3 weeks and for under $25,000.

Getting to where we are today hasn’t always been easy. We have had to adapt to changing conditions in the real estate market. For example, many of our clients today are homeowners that are not currently selling. They are locked into historically low mortgage rates that they don’t want to give up and the inventory is tight to find a replacement home. We are now doing a lot of work for homeowners that want to be ready to “sell one day” or who may have no intention of selling. I’ve learned that entrepreneurship demands that you make adjustments quickly, and the real estate market definitely changes quickly with market conditions.

It is important to be nimble as an entrepreneur and to learn from your mistakes. I believe that my company is a reflection of my personal brand and my reputation is my most valuable asset. I have passion for what I do, and I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment from helping homeowners create beautiful spaces.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places include many of the newer areas of Atlanta that have been developed. Ponce City Market has a great food hall, and The ROOF at Ponce City Market has something for everyone, along with spectacular views of the area. I actually had a relative that worked at Sears Roebuck in the building well before it was redeveloped into today’s great destination! It’s just a quick hop and skip on the Beltline to Krog Street Market, which has more great restaurants and places to hang out.

While in Midtown, there are a lot of great restaurants and bars. One of my favorites is Zocalo Mexican Kitchen which I’ve enjoyed since the late 90’s. You can’t go wrong with this authentic Mexican experience that has been a Midtown fixture for almost 30 years! Or try dinner at Pasta da Pulcinella for incredible pasta. After dinner, I would catch the always hilarious improv comedy show at Whole World Theater. I would end the evening with a nightcap of cheesecake and Bailey’s Cappuccino at Cafe Intermezzo. YOLO, right?

Buckhead has some of the best shopping in town at Lenox and Phipps Plaza. After burning off some energy in the malls, I would hit Mission + Market right across the street, for a fun vibe and great food on the ground floor of Three Alliance Center. For one of Atlanta’s best kept secrets, you can try Himitsu in Buckhead Plaza, a speakeasy that is consistently voted one of Atlanta’s best bars. Make sure you have reservations!

My friends would leave Atlanta tired, but with fabulous pictures of our beautiful city!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Sure, I’d like to give a shoutout to my family, friends, and professional network who have helped me along the way. My family has always been my biggest supporters. My husband (Jay), my daughter (Evan), and my son (Will) have all taken an interest in my business, and they commonly go with me on evenings and weekends as I visit existing job sites, view open houses, and explore new neighborhoods. They have encouraged me to follow my dreams and have always been there for me. I am so grateful for their love and support.

My friends have also been a huge part of my success. I’ve been fortunate to have friends who are successful in their fields. They push me to challenge myself and are always there to celebrate my wins. My path to entrepreneurial success was definitely shortened because they have shared their knowledge and wisdom with me.

Lastly, I wouldn’t be where I am without the great network of industry friends. I have built my business with support from industry peers such as loan officers, home stagers, real estate agents, and contractors. It is truly a network of people helping people that often feels like family, and I think this is a big part of why I have been successful. It’s always easy to find those who say they’ll do the work, but it’s not easy to find the special few who truly take ownership of their work and are consistent with each and every project. This really helps set me apart!
