How did you choose a creative path?


Deciding to pursue an artistic or creative career path isn’t for the faint of heart. Challenges will abound, but so many of the artists we speak with couldn’t be happier with their choice. So, we asked them about how they made the decision in the first place.

I pursued a Creative career because its just as important to feed the soul as it is to feed the body. We need money or resources to survive, but we need inspiration and purpose to thrive, and I would rather contribute to helping the world thrive than anything else. I wasn’t always pursuing an artistic career. Right out of high school, I went to college almost solely to play basketball while figuring out what I wanted to study. I eventually decided on marketing because I loved studying people’s behavior. After graduating with my Bachelor’s, I had the opportunity to get my graduate school paid for so I went straight into my Master’s program graduating with an MBA in Marketing and International Business. After a year out of school, I knew I didn’t want a career where I sat behind a desk Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and saving for my retirement – so instead, I had part time jobs at Starbucks and a local gym. Honestly, once I was dropped into the world of music, I knew I could never leave. I am one of those very lucky people that had a very obvious aha! moment with my career / calling in this life and there are few things I’ve ever been more certain about – this is what I want to be doing forever, and this is a way I can contribute that is special and meaningful and specific to who I am. The reason why I chose a creative career is pretty simple. I LOVE TO CREATE! I have a big imagination, Im always thinking of how I can be different, how can I stand out. When it comes to photography I wanted to tell story with my pictures by showing emotion, facial expressions, excitement and things of that nature. I always knew from a young age I wanted to pursue a career in the arts. I was a very shy child and having opportunities to express myself and be creative has helped grow my confidence and is a perfect way for me to tell stories that I feel are powerful need to be heard. I kept music as my part time career for 10 years long. I was teaching students, performed in so many concerts. Then I make it full time for last 2 years. Greetings, I’m Palm Piraban, and I am working as a CG Generalist at FuseFX, an award-winning Visual Effects Studio based in New York City, a role I’ve held since graduating with an M.A. in Visual Effects from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2022. From a young age, I’ve been a passionate fan of animation and movies such as Pixar’s Toy Story (1995), and I was always curious about how they were made. I’ve always been drawn to art and design. As a child, I would spend hours sketching, painting, and drawing decorative letterforms in my notebook. The way that I could express myself through art made me fall in love with it. As I continued to explore my creative interests, I developed a strong passion for branding, visual design and illustration. You could always catch me gaming with my sister growing up and my little sister when she was born. With games we could explore other places and tackle real life problems despite what the world threw at us.
