We had the good fortune of connecting with Cat Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cat, how do you think about risk?
If there isn’t risk in what you’re doing, then you’re far too comfortable to succeed. When you love your career, you take risks for it, you’ll do anything for it, put anything on the line for it. In my career, I’ve taken many risks. I started producing my own music, which has been quite scary because I never know if I’m good enough. In order to be risky in a smart way, one must overcome fear. That is slowly something I am learning to do, I’m learning to trust myself through the process. Risks are healthy, without struggle we can’t grow stronger. Without struggle, we never learn to trust ourselves.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am involved in many forms of creative arts such as graphic design, songwriting, music production, and engineering, and stage/ studio performance! I am usually the proudest of my music production and songwriting. I have realized this is mostly my strong suit and where I succeed the most! It was not easy to get to where I am now, and it won’t be any easier to get to where I want to be! Since I am so passionate about my career, I have put most of my time day to day into working towards my goals in music and artistry, whether it be by studying my homework through Berklee College of Music, or learning a new tool in Logic Pro X. Or even just writing a new song. Whatever it is, I try and practice my creativity every single day. Being a creative is a lot like being a professional athlete. The best athletes train daily and constantly are overcoming obstacles to grow stronger. This is the same as being an artist, it’s hard and stressful and sometimes it is overwhelming but the outcome makes it all completely worth it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would probably take them shopping at Little Five Points, a show at The Tabernacle, and maybe to the mountains in Dahlonega one day for hiking! These are a few of my favorite places where I’ve created some wonderful memories and I’d love to share those environments with my friend. I would also make sure to take them to my favorite restaurant, Superica!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank Mark and Clarissa Gibson at The Gibson Co. for their impact on my life as a musician starting at a very young age. When I was 12 years old and realized I wanted to do music for the rest of my life, they were some of the first people to mentor and guide me. They still to this day present opportunities for me as an artist and have greatly helped me through my career. Without them in my life, I do not know where I would be!
