We had the good fortune of connecting with Ron Tyler Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ron, what’s the most important factor to your success?
To be completely honest, my brand is still a work in progress. I work diligently every day to expand and improve it. Of course, there is someone with the same name who has gained much more recognition. Similar to how that name is widely known, I strive for Ron Tyler Jr, the owner of Tyler Studios, to be just as recognizable. I believe my faith and persistence are the key factors that have contributed to my current success. I have always been persistent, and this quality became evident to me during my senior year of high school when coaches and those close to me suggested that I play football at a smaller D2 university. However, I defied the odds and secured a preferred walk-on spot my freshman year at The Ohio State University, which is a Power 5 college football team. This experience provided me with the building blocks I needed to realize that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. The real challenge, however, is maintaining that success once it is achieved, which many individuals, brands, and entrepreneurs struggle with daily. To stay at the top of your game and reach the next level, you must continuously challenge yourself. A true winner never becomes complacent.

Entrepreneurship comes with a lot of responsibilities. Some people assume it’s easier than a 9-5 job, but it’s actually much more challenging. When starting a side hustle or job, most people still have one foot in another job to pay the bills. However, as a true entrepreneur, you must be willing to work 2-3 times harder than an average 9-5 worker. You must treat your hustle or business as a 9-5 job because it creates structure not only for you but also for your future employees. Having proper operations in place is essential for creating a successful brand. One of the main struggles I face as an entrepreneur is achieving work/life balance. You must know when to take a break to keep your mental health intact in order to keep pushing forward. Many entrepreneurs experience burnout, and that can be detrimental. You must have a “never give up” mentality and understand that failure is part of the success process, but creating structure is even more critical.

In my industry, I hear more “no’s” than “yes’s,” and most people would give up after a few rejections. However, the right “yes” will make it all worth it. I have accumulated debt, been denied projects that I knew I could succeed at, and started my own projects with limited resources. Despite these challenges, I continue to strive for success. This involves making numerous phone calls, staying on top of industry trends, networking, dealing with diverse personalities and perspectives, and remaining innovative and creative. To achieve anything significant in life, it takes sacrifices, being uncomfortable, and many nights of prayer. When I look back, I have accomplished a lot, but looking forward, I know I have much more to achieve. In summary, I am not finished yet, and I still have work to do.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others is my commitment to being true to myself. Everyone has a unique quality about them, and for me, it’s my personal journey towards success. I am highly particular and meticulous about everything I do, especially when it comes to my creative projects. As a Producer/Director, I wear multiple hats on projects, overseeing the sound, director of photography, lighting, set, and most importantly, the talent. I strive to ensure they bring their best A-game to the project. As a fellow actor, I can see both sides of the camera and take great pride in my work and the projects I work on.

My niche started with producing reality shows. Let me share a quick story. In 2014, I created my first reality dating show titled “Me or The Whip.” The show explored how people judge each other based on the type of car they drive in the dating scene. Before shopping it around, we shot two pilots because the first one did not meet my standards. I needed perfection. Long story short, the show got picked up by Media Mogul, Mona Scott-Young, the creator and producer of the Love and Hip-Hop franchise, but unfortunately, it got shelved. My partner and I were disappointed because we thought we had made it since it caught the attention of Monami Entertainment. I vividly recall signing the contract, going to the club that night, and charging up the card, even though we did not drink. Although the show did not get picked up and fully produced by a major network, it was a learning experience for me. I learned that everything has its season, and that moment was not my time yet. I felt that the show was ahead of its time, and people did not catch on until after a year or so, once the pilot got out. It was a tough pill to swallow, but the good thing was that the pilot was produced so well that it helped me gain business opportunities as a Producer and Director on other paid projects, which eventually led to me owning my own production company, PAYUS Productions. You can now search and watch the full pilot on YouTube. My motto has always been “quality over quantity,” and I stick to that in my creative journey. I believe a great project will live forever and can open doors that you cannot even imagine if you put the necessary thought and time into it. This year, I am working on a few great projects that could be just that, and I’m excited about getting them done and showing the world. So, stay tuned. A takeaway from this story is that your so-called “failures” can become the very reasons for your achievements.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend or friends were to visit Atlanta for a week, we would definitely hit up some of the best restaurants in the city. Places with good vibes to wine and dine, like MCK Restaurant and Bar, Vision Restaurant and Lounge, Bar Vegan in the Ponce City Market area, Krog Street Market, SkyLounge, and for a good cigar smoke, I would suggest Cam Newton’s Fellaship.ATL and Red Phone Booth – Buckhead.

For recreational activities, it would depend on the season. I would recommend seeing the Atlanta Hawks play at the State Farm Arena, the Falcons at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, the Braves at Truist Park, and don’t forget how fun the pro soccer team Atlanta United games can be. I would also suggest visiting Centennial Olympic Park for a run, hiking at Stone Mountain Park, taking a test drive of the newest Porsche at the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta, riding scooters along the Atlanta Belt Line, checking out rapper T.I.’s The Trap Museum, and you can never go wrong hitting up Atlanta Station.

There is so much to do in Atlanta, and it has everything you could imagine for anyone.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this whole entire journey to my loving parents, Mr. Ronald Sr. and Jacqueline Tyler, my sister Brittany Tyler, and my forever praying grandmother and activist Pecolia (Means) Standberry for being my support system through tough times.
