Meet Destiny Hurt | DJ & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Hurt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destiny, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
As a DJ, I don’t have an end goal. My objective is to provide sounds to the masses for as long as possible. I would also like to inspire other young girls to become DJs. I don’t plan on ending my career. When I slow down from DJing, I would to have lots of protege’s who carry on my legacy just like “go-go” music.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from is that I am not one dimensional. I am a DJ, beat maker, and producer. I am most proud of the support I receive from my parents. Thank you, dad, for teaching me business at a young age and for continually pushing me to get my education and pursuing my DJ endeavors at the same time. Hard work is how I got to where I am today and not being afraid to take chances. Additionally, I am willing to always learn from other DJs and welcome a chance to showcase my talents. Being a DJ is not easy. When I first started I thought I could just play music but it’s more bigger than that. Music is about innovation. So as a DJ “the study of music” never stops for us. We have to stay on top of all the new records and knowing when to play a specific song, depending on the crowd. My father (retired Air Force) taught us a long time ago that, “the key to air power is flexibility.” He instilled that in my siblings and me many years ago and it sticks with me to this day. The most important lesson I have learned is never give up, no matter what. I would like for the world to know that DJ DHurt is in affect all the time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a best friend coming in town, I would take them to Zari’s Lounge, WhoWannaPHo Cuisine and The Starling in Atlanta. However, there are so many great restaurants in the area that we could just drive down the street and pick one. As for an itinerary, I would start out at my old residential ( Atlanta Breakfast Club ) for breakfast, order lunch at WhoWannaPho, then go to the Korean bbq, Iron Age for dinner. After dinner, we would go to Opium or Zari (since I have worked there). For after hours I will probably be the DJ for CHIC ATl so we would go there for after-hours. That would be day one. On day two, we would go to a museum for some local Georgia history. Thereafter, another restaurant, maybe a seafood restaurant (The Boiler) in the local area. Day three, we would visit the CNN office and centennial park and again take in some local Georgia history. Day four, we would eat breakfast at Rosie’s. For lunch, we would visit Georgia State University, my alma mater. Day five, we would catch up on rest. Day six, we would party from sunup to sundown at Boogalou, Revel and Babylon. On day seven, I would put my friend on a plane to head back home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Jesus, my supporters and my family for their outstanding support. Most importantly, I would like to shout to my brother for putting the idea of becoming a DJ. Shoutout to my dad for buying loudspeakers and never using them because he works so hard providing for us all. To my mother for being my rock who I talk with every day and encourages me through her strong spiritual beliefs that she continues to remind me of where I should be in life and that I am on track. To my older sister who is so inspirational and who keeps me on my toes with everything, fashion, making beats, and producing with her abilities to write great hooks.
