What’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?

We love rebels and people who challenge the status quo, conventional wisdom and mainstream narratives and so we asked some really bright folks to tell us about one piece of conventional advice they disagree with.

I think that our culture prioritizes success and stigmatizes failure. We’re socialized that failure is something that should be avoided, but I actually think failure is necessary to success and should be considered as simply part of the process. Everyone is bad at something when they first start; the only way we truly learn is by doing. So this means putting ourselves and our work out there, even if it means opening ourselves up to ridicule. It means being consistent no matter how we actually feel about our work. And this is difficult to do — in fact, it feels like a constant struggle; but the work is in making the decision to keep going. Read more>>

I was always told to “Never Burn Any Bridges”. But my Dad reminded me one time, ” Some bridges are meant to be burned, so that you’re not tempted to go back across them. stop looking back; keep moving forward. Read more>>

Ooo, this is a great question… #TeamNoSleep! #GrindDon’tStop! This notion of constant working with no rest, grinding hard every single day, is just not it. Yes, it is absolutely true that you should put forth/dedicate time and effort on your craft, your goals, business(s), etc. But in this society, we’ve all been tainted with the belief that we’re only accepted and valued by producing, creating, selling, and accomplishing feat after feat.
