Meet Maria Parra | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Parra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Maracaibo, Venezuela. My studies there led me to work in the business and digital world, but designing and decorating my home brought me back to my first passion: interior design.

This began when I was just a girl when I completely changed my Barbie houses, I painted them, mixed white glue and toilet paper and with that paste I made “coverings” for them, I decorated them completely and I loved that, I could spend hours there.

I studied something totally different, I studied public accounting and also to be a lactation counselor, two incredibly different worlds but which nurtured my curious spirit.

When I arrived in this country, I was sure that I wanted to try in the design and interior decoration field, but I didn’t even know how to start in this area, the pandemic arrived and then spending all day at home made me revisit the idea and that’s how I first started offering Online services, from Chile to Canada, I advised friends and clients in various cities.

Then I started seeing clients in person here in Georgia and everything formally started.

I believe that beautiful design means creating a unique and livable space that
perfectly complements the style of the clients, and that incorporates design elements
that the client had not thought of himself.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
This idea began in the middle of the pandemic year, while everyone was at home literally looking to the ceiling and walls, I started offering remote advice on decoration and interior design, I launched a website and months later I formally registered Styly Home Design Studio as a full-service design firm based in Atlanta, Georgia, and available for projects across the country.

I think the first years are very hard, there are many things to learn, in my case learning twice because I am latin woman in the United States, how business is managed here, everything was new to me because I had only one year in this country. So you can imagine the remains that I had to face from the simplest things like determining the name of the company, registering it, opening a corporate bank account, everything was new for me and I have been learning little by little.

The biggest learning I’ve had is that as long as you have the courage to share your talent with the world, things will flow and customers will appreciate it. Today I am capable of improving people’s lives by combining comfort, details and style.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love living in Sandy Springs, one of my favorite places is City Springs, my son plays with his bike, runs and one of my favorite restaurants is The Select next to the park, so I could start a perfect day with brunch there, then we can visit Ponce City Market, have a drink maybe walk along part of the BeltLine and finally at nightfall I would visit Alpharetta or maybe we would walk through the Avalon.

Another of the places that I love is Stone Mountain, but we would need to spend a full day there, climb the mountain, enjoy the activities with the children and finally watch the sunset at the top of the mountain.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, my son and God. They have always supported me. Of course to my clients because they are the ones who have improved my work and have made my growth significant over the years.
