We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Priscilla, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balance is an interesting concept to me. I used to believe that everything in life needed equal balance and that life would flow with ease with proper balance. After starting my own business while working a full-time job, being a mother of two, and still studying in school, I realized the “balance” of all these things wasn’t realistic. I struggled to manage my self-care and do the things that brought me joy when I was in pursuit of a balanced life. I also came to learn that not everything needed equal parts of my energy and attention. So I began to prioritize instead. Building my business and supporting my clients, caring for my family, and tending to my self-care were most important to me. So everything I said “yes” or “no” to would need to align with my priorities and goals. I traded time balance for energy balance. I gave the brunt of my mental energy to my business, family, and self-care. While my full-time job may take up most of my day, I knew I could not allow it to take up my best energy. So I created a schedule that helped me focus on my priorities above everything else. Even if the time spent on each wasn’t equal, my focus on each task was direct and streamlined. I no longer aim for balance. I aim for progress toward my goals. And I strive for quality of time spent over quantity of time spent.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Becoming a Womens Health Coach was not something I ever really had in mind. The thought came to me as part of my own struggle with health. As a child, I grew up experiencing many health issues that continued into adulthood. I was sick with respiratory issues, digestive issues, sinus issues, and major skin issues that killed my confidence and seemed to plague my body. I desperately needed change and unfortunately, medication only masked my problems until they’d return again with full vengeance. After experiencing my own holistic healing transformation, I decided I wanted to share this every women I could! I knew so many women who were dealing with the same issues I was, and I knew a holistic solution that could support them. I decided to become certified in Fitness Coaching and Integrative Nutrition and started with 1:1 coaching. I’d like to say the experience was easy and success found me quickly, but my business has had many up’s and down’s. Becoming an entrepreneur isn’t for the undisciplined. It requires a continuous climb even when you can’t see the next step in front of you. My setbacks have never kept me down for long. Through guidance and proper direction, I’ve learned to pivot as needed. The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is to keep showing up, even if it seems no one is showing up for you. You have to show up for yourself. You have to believe in your message and what you’re sharing. What keeps me going is the reality that some woman out there is praying for a solution that I have to offer. I show up everyday for that person. I want anyone reading this to know that with consistency, discipline, boundaries, and open-minded strategy, you too can achieve success and reach your goals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a fanatic for the outdoors as most of my friends are, so we’d definitely have to stop at Cave of the Mounds, a breathtaking underground limestone cave. Then we’d spend a day hiking at Devils Lake to see the natural rock structures and a gorgeous overview of the water. We’d stop at Goddess and the Baker coffee shop, and do a candle making class and paint and sip. For the night life, we’d head up to Milwaukee and check out a jazz bar or stand-up comedy special or go see a Bucks game at Fiserv Forum. And of course, we’d take lots of photos with the many beautiful murals in the city!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow so many people come to mind! I’ve been so blessed to have such wonderful mentors and leadership throughout my journey. Most recently, I’d love to thank my coach and mentor, Natalie Taylor. Her outpour of support for me, her guidance, and her voice in my ear fuels me daily. She helped me recognize the barriers of my mindset that were becoming blocks in my business. She helped me unpack my limiting beliefs so I can flow with ease and grace. Her work has helped me in mindset transformation, and that has been key in my becoming of self. I’m grateful everyday for her support.

I’d also like to thank Robyn Youkilis, my mentor who helped me transform my health and inspired the idea of me even becoming a coach! It’s thanks to her I was able to heal myself and further pursue a career in health coaching.

A few books I’d love to recommend are:
“Think and Grow Rich”
“The Richest Man in Babylon”
“Secrets of the Millionaire Mind”
“Rich Dad. Poor Dad”

And lastly, I thank God every day because without Him, none of this would be possible.
