We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan Borget and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have worked in athletics for 20 years as an athletic trainer striving to help keep people in the game. Through that time I worked in the college, high school, community outreach and tactical settings. My job and goal was to provide high quality healthcare to those individuals and keep them playing. All the while as the fitness industry was booming I would see those around me dealing with injuries I could treat. Often I would give advice but didn’t get the chance to really exercise. Just over a year ago I had the opportunity to start up a clinic working out of a local gym, Body Evolution, and I jumped at it. I have been able to provide interventions early in injuries to get them back to competing and training with as little interruption as possible. I get to help people continue to do what they love.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Experience is what sets me apart. Having worked with high performers in the athletic setting for two decades has given me an edge over many sports medicine providers. The high paced environment and demanding schedule has helped shape my approach to fixing injuries and helping modify activity to allow the patient to keep training safely.
Through the years I have tailored my skills for the most efficient treatment, rehab and recovery of injuries whether chronic or acute. My big tools I turn to are dry needling, therapeutic cupping, Graston’s (or scraping), movement screens and McKenzie MDT. I am greedy when it comes to results and want you to get better AND STAY BETTER. I want to resolve your symptoms and give you a strategy to prevent things from getting worse. I will always have your back but I want you to get back to full activity as quickly and safely as possible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Columbus GA is an up and coming area that has some really great attractions within a 40-60min drive. There is plenty to do inside and outside depending on the weather or mood.
One day would definitely be spent down by the river which uptown is nestled along. There are several shops to rent bikes or go white water raft out of as well as a 20+mile river walk that is scenic and a good way to spend a lazy afternoon. Crisscrossing the river there are zip lines with a confidence course suspended from the trees on the Alabama side.
Actual uptown also has several attractions including multiple couch eatery’s like Banks food hall, Nonic and Smoke BBQ. There is a live action theater if you would like to catch a show and there are Market Days from spring through fall. Another big draw on Friday nights is the live concert series in the fall and spring.
We could spend 2 days exploring the area north of columbus with a whole day spent on Calloway Gardens golfing, playing on their white sand beach or just getting pampered at the resort. There are several areas to hike up there including around the “Little White House” where FDR often spent time.
Lastly, south of Columbus there is Providence Canyon with miles of hiking and views that are amazing any time of the year. Located a short drive from there is Swamp Fox Distillery, Richmond Distillery and Omaha Brewery
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have had many mentors along the way and I strive to learn from those around me always. My best friend Matt Powell who I worked with in the college and tactical settings bought Evolution not long before I got started. I had always confided in him about my thoughts of getting sports medicine services into gyms so he asked if I wanted to give it a shot and the answer was a resounding “Yes!” I was excited for that opportunity and have made the most of it.
Reaching even further back, my parents distilled into me the work ethic to make a small business work. They pushed me to figure out the process and then work it to get to where I was aiming. Without their support along the way through the school, the moves and the jobs I wouldn’t have made it.
Lastly, my wife has made it possible for me to grind through the long hours and bring my skills to help others. She has supported me, listened to my ideas and giving me the honest feedback I need whether I want to hear it or not. I am excited to share the journey with her and grow closer through this.
