Meet Sharlene Bradberry | Chef & Herbalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharlene Bradberry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharlene, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

Ever since a little girl, I always wanted to be somebody. Me and one of my cousins use to talk all the time about having a business. With my skills and gifts that God given me. I just knew I had to show the world my talent, well more like my gifts. I use to always tell myself…one day I’m going to leave something for my kids & grandkids. And I also wanted to be able to create jobs for my blood & mudd family. My husband always say to me…baby.. you have million dollar hands and billion dollar thoughts show the world what you really made of. And I’m going to do just that!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

SharBerry kitchen started off in the kitchen of my old house in Lawrenceville GA. I would do free lunches for teachers, barbershops, nail salons and so much more. Just to get my name out there. I always say that, saving up and selling my motorcycle to get a food truck was the best thing ever to do. It’s going on 5 years next year we’ve had the food truck. And 4 years we’ve had a brick and mortar. What sets SharBerry Kitchen apart from others is…we sell real authentic Chicago style food. Our food comes directly from Chicago.

It’s so many things that makes me so excited about my restaurant & food truck. One of them is how excited my customers get when they taste their food. Or when they find out we a REAL CHICAGO STYLE RESTAURANT…It just makes me so proud when people traveling through and they say they found my place off Google. It gives me chills of excitement. I just love it…Getting to where I’m at now wasn’t easy.! But, I took the horse to the water & bottled it up…& sold it myself.. I had to rub elbows & sit in rooms that I never thought I would sit in. Again it wasn’t easy. I had my restaurant open even though I didn’t have heat in the winter nor central air in the summer for 3 years straight. And didn’t complain…only to the management company…. It would be like 110 in the kitchen. And we would still be in there like it’s nothing. When Covid happened & we closed down for almost 8 months. The struggle was real! Like for real! But having the Faith of a mustard seed & continuing to put him first. He kept me and my family above water. So I’ll forever be in debt with him. I’ve learned many many lessons during this walk in my life. I’ve learned that sometimes it’s okay to put me first. And even when the doors feel like they are closing up on me. They really showing me what’s really opening up in my life. And what God has in store. One time in our family meeting….My kids and my husband was like..you always look out for people. You always a listening ear. You seem to always know what to say to make things better and clearer….and never complain. Always smiling..& I do…cause God didn’t keep me here to complain. I’m still alive..right!? So what’s there to complain about..!? I put my best foot forward and keep it moving.. But…Honestly to know me is to love me…..I’m just a beautiful pearl in a shell..Once you crack me open I’m yours for Life. But once you mishandle me…I’m gone for Life.

And cooking, it has always been my passion. I literally can cook a 10 min meal…& leave you full…and my love..is for the elderly…like..I love me some elderly people…the ones thats going to tell you how it is..& probably pinch you while telling you… lol…oh and I’m hooked on my big family I created so bad. They are one of the reasons why I go so hard for SharBerry Kitchen. SharBerry kitchen is truly a hidden Gem that has her toe in the gate. But we trying to get her through the door!! My husband always says. Baby you have million dollar hands with a billionaire brain. And I get it… I do know my time gone come. That’s why before I make any moves I Pray about it first. If it don’t sit right in my sprit I don’t move. But it’s just me. Your vibe & your energy gotta click with mines. And not only mines but my SharBerry Kitchen staff too. Cause at the end of the day peace is everything and all money not good money. I grew to understand those very words. Im just waiting for my time. Cause I know God got me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I don’t have a lot of friends, I know it’s probably hard to believe. But the couple I do have we normally don’t have plans. We just go with the flow. Most times I’ll cook meals at home..we’ll laugh, dance, eat & crack jokes. I got to ipbin age to be running through bars & clubs. I be on chill. But, if we do step out somewhere. I’ll take them to The U Bar or Boogalou restaurant & lounge a something like that. We went to The Vegan Bar a few times. It’s a vibe in there. We enjoyed the food & music. But other than that, we find things to do at my home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Yes, I wanna send some shining stars to my husband and kids. They have been right by my side through my tears & fears throughout these years. I don’t know know life without them! I do this lifestyle for them! I’m big momma! I always gotta make sure they good. Secondly, my siblings & my parents. Life never was easy for us! But one thing I know we always had each other. And having each other is what made life all better.
