We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorenzo Maurice and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorenzo, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
in the beginning i wasn’t sure how i would obtain clientele—i was presented with an opportunity to curate Missy Elliott’s birthday party. unfortunately, the budget i suggested was too high for the person paying.
i knew that this event could be the start of something great for my brand. the night before her party, i reached out to the planner that replaced me and asked could i help with anything and she said yes. i donated this massive purple balloon garland, it easily became one of the main attractions at the event. best decision ever.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We at Basquiat Balloons pride ourselves on being irregular. We curate events that are a little out of the norm but still aesthetically pleasing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ahh, this is tough. One of my favorite spots in Atlanta would have to be Divan—omg the Salmon Pasta is am.az.ing pair it with a bottle of Cliquot!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
honestly, my friends pushed for the growth of my brand more than me in the beginning—they saw the vision from the very start. a strong support system is underrated.
