We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Mosley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to find a way that I could make money using my art. My main goal was to be able to work on my own time and spend my time doing things I love and enjoy and while building my business at the same time. So I started making t shirt designs and learning how to print in my apartment. My other jobs at the time were coaching soccer and substitute teaching. Then as my business grew I was able to quit those jobs and focus all of my time on making t shirts and designs. I started by selling shirts at tailgates and bars so I was making money just having a good time. There was no better feeling when I first started than going to a Braves tailgate, running around the parking lots at Turner Field and as the game started and all the fans went in the stadium, I would go back to my car with pockets full of cash. I would make more money in one night in a few hours than I would have working weeks at my other jobs. That is where one of Buckhead Thread Co’s slogans stems from which is #GoodTimesNRareDesigns. So from there I got into festivals, beer festivals, music festivals, art festivals. It was my key to freedom.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe my art and style sets me apart from others because I see things from a unique perspective. I tend to gravitate toward the purest essence of my inspirations to connect the idea with the customer. For example, my most popular design of all time, which I am very proud of, is the original Los Bravos de Atl design. A twist on the Atlanta Braves Chief Knockahoma logo that captured more so the feeling of being brave, than a logo of a baseball team. It was the spirit of bravery and freedom itself reflected in a Dia de los Muertos style skull and Spanish text. The success of this one design changed my life forever. Eventually after 7 years, the Braves and MLB forced me to stop making this design and actually stole it for themselves. I am also a fan of art so I have been influenced by the greats such as Warhol, Basquiat, Picasso, Dali. I always wanted to make history and be one of the legends of art like them. My journey as an artist/ entrepreneur has been one of the greatest challenges of my entire life. There were plenty of times when I didn’t know how I was going to pay my bills but somehow through what seemed like miracle after miracle my path was laid out before me. I followed my heart and trusted that I was doing what I was meant to be doing and that everything would just work out as long as I never gave up. Here I am now over 10 years in the clothing industry and still going strong. Through the years I have learned many lessons and probably the most important one for me has been that a positive attitude can get you through most obstacles you encounter. I want the world to know that Buckhead Thread Co. is an example that dreams come true and that you can do whatever you put your heart and mind to.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I was to entertain a friend visiting for a week, I would first bring them to the Hotel Roxy where our shop is located in West Midtown. We have one of the greatest spaces in town with the best rooftop view of the whole city. Then we would probably get some dinner at La Fonda or 6 feet under. Next stop would probably be the Painted Duck for drinks and games followed by Northside Tavern for some live blues. If we still had some energy left after all of that, we might swing by Pink Pony or Cheetah for some live entertainment. No doubt that when the weekend rolled around we would probably hit the bars in Buckhead for some good ol fun. Maybe grab a nice steak dinner at Hal’s and end the night dancing at Johnny’s Hideaway.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to the people of Atlanta for supporting my business all of these years. I also want to recognize all of the great people who have worked with me over the years.
